Hi all, check out this fundraiser -
Jordan Luck and the Tai Tapu Hotel are helping my daughter get to Nepal in November for a culturally immersive trip, in conjunction with Lincoln High School and UnEarthed Education.
Read below the details and words from Clara about her trip…
My name is Clara Graham, and I am a 15 year old year 11 student at Lincoln High School. Myself and 13 other students as well as 3 teachers will be visiting Nepal for 3 weeks, at the end of this year.
To begin, we will be hiking along the Langtang Valley trek, from Kathmandu into Nepal's breathtaking Himalayas, through mountain ranges and valleys, and journeying to a height of almost 5000m.
While passing through villages following traditional trade routes, we will be given an insight into mountain life in Nepal learning about the adaptability, resilience, and tenacity of the Nepali people.
After finishing our trek, we will explore Kathmandu, visiting world heritage sites and start to prepare for our service project in Pokhara where we will be learning with and contributing to the local community.
In Pokhara we will be staying at a local school where our service project will be to build a playground for the Nepali children, which will immerse us even further into the culture and other ways of living and give lasting benefits to the childhoods of those living in the area. After this we then travel to Bhaktapur and then to Kathmandu again for our departure.
As a part of our trip, we can gain NCEA level 3 credits for outdoor education which is such an amazing asset to have under our belts for University Entrance.
The money raised from Jordan’s Story & Song evening will help me directly, towards an UnEarthed Education program leader, local guides and training, transport, meals, accommodation, flights, excursions, etc., where with the help of my classmates I can make a difference in the communities, give valuable experiences to the Nepali people and children, while gaining valuable experiences myself.
I am personally most excited about visiting the school in Pokhara as it is the same school that past LHS trips have gone to. I am intrigued to know whether some of the children will remember the students that went 3 years ago. I am incredibly excited to learn and submerge myself in another culture surrounding myself with knowledge of what’s important to other people’s way of living.
I feel this trip will give me a step ahead into the real world, it will open my eyes to greater possibilities and create higher aspirations for me to fulfil in life. I hope to gain a sense of appreciation for what I have at home and a sense of leadership as well as independence and confidence in myself and what I am capable of doing.
This trip has a rhythm; Settle --> Challenge --> Contribute --> Recover --> Reflect
When it’s hard, it’s meant to be hard - and when it’s good, we’ll have time to enjoy it.
Many, many thanks to Jordan Luck for his kindness making this night a possibility, also to the Tai Tapu Hotel for the venue and Natalie for all of her hard work helping with the tickets.
