If you can smell damp, or notice mould or damage in a cupboard, chances are you will have a leak somewhere!
This one today was all hidden behind draws and cabinets.
A split 1980s DUX Quicktite fitting, dripping away for years….
Insurance?.. no, well maybe a gradual leak payout …

A regular pattern of copper failure in
Hwc’s and pipework.
If you live in a cul-de -sac, or end of one, get the council to flush the lines often.
If you live down a long driveway, flush your pipework often.
Another HWC leaking today, I also suggest a water filter also to protect the new HWC from chlorine!
The new cylinders only have a 5 year warranty.

Simply put , it’s illegal in NZ to undertake plumbing work without a Plumbers licence...
I was called to ‘help’ today., when the guy with a ‘yeh I know a little’ attitude got stuck.
He went to Mega 10, to be misled by someone else who ‘knew a little’.
I did ask him if his insurance was up to speed for him to be doing illegal work as he had connected the tap to the water supply also.
It’s Just not worth the risk hiring an untrained cowboy.

Happy new year!
Havnt posted anything for a while now but wanted to share this..
My pics show a Dux polybuteline fitting, it was a bad leak and have replaced it with new brass type fitting.
You’ll see the chlorine has completely eaten the copper elbow’s tail that the pipe would have been crimped onto.
It’s the third time this particular house has had this exact type of leak.
Just purely bringing it to your attention as this is a result of chlorine.
‘Dux Qest ‘ was and still is a problem with polybutylene plumbing systems since the ‘80s. They were made from acetal and failed .
No advice really other than turn water off if going away for a while, and keep insurances up to speed.

if anyone knows anyone without water, there is a chance their HWC is still full. ( not in all cases).
let me know, message me, they could have around 180 Litres of water that is fresh, and if boiled, would then become potable.
It would require a plumber to connect a tap or run a pipe for the user.
* have done 2 today that is why this post., some people do not have water at all and their cylinder can become an emergency supply.

After receiving a few calls yesterday from clients regarding their water…here’s the facts..

We’re really sorry about the dirty water issues some of you have been experiencing. Our teams are out there now across the city flushing the system to clear the issue. They worked well into the night yesterday and started again early this morning. They’ll keep at it until it’s resolved.

The situation came about during some final testing of our new drinking water bores before they are connected to the main drinking water network next month. During the testing, silt was dislodged and this affected some residents water supply. The most affected areas have been Napier South, Bluff Hill and the Napier CBD. It’s really helpful when you let us know if you have discoloured water. If it happens at your place, run a cold tap for 15-20 minutes and if it still doesn’t clear call our Customer Service team 24/7 on (06) 8357579. There are no health risks associated with the discoloured water. Please continue to send your water reports through to us if you do experience changes to your water supply.
