Stabi-Mulch holds 13 times its own weight in water. On its own that’s a specification on a data sheet; on site, it decides how fast bare ground turns into ground that holds against the weather.

Seed needs consistent moisture to germinate. On bare or thinly covered ground, rain either runs off or dries out, leaving the seed sitting there waiting for the next rain. Establishment stalls, and the site stays exposed the whole time.

Stabi-Mulch keeps moisture against the seed between rain events, so growth comes on faster and the cover thickens instead of sitting patchy.

Our mission is to keep sediment where it belongs, by applying high quality hydromulch solutions on earthworks projects throughout NZ.

This is a genuinely fun job, driving new, large scale equipment and working on some awesome locations across New Zealand. This job isn't just 'driving trucks’, it's a hands-on role too, so you’ll stay fit while you're at it.

You'll be applying hydromulch products across civil projects: solar & wind farms, forestry, roading, subdivisions and bulk earthworks projects throughout the upper north island, with the occasional trip further afield.

Seed, fertiliser and cover. On most sites that’s three operations, booked separately, with three chances for the weather to undo the last one before the next one even starts.

Hydro mulching puts all three down together. Seed, the nutrients it needs to germinate, and the fibre binding both to the soil, mixed to suit the ground on that specific site and sprayed in one go.

Nothing sits exposed waiting for the next stage, nothing washes off in between. The ground is sealed the moment its sprayed.

We run the largest hydro mulching units in the country: 3 to 5 hectares a day, with a 100-metre cannon for the areas no truck can get near. Most units can only do ~1 hectare a day.

Most people think hay mulch is the cheaper option for their sites. What they don’t know is that hay mulch is in the drain after the first heavy rain or wind event.

Stabi-Mulch is wooden fibre, mechanically shredded in New Zealand. Mechanical shredding, rather than chemical refining, retains 28% of the natural lignin glue in the fibre. In hydromulch, that lignin matters for binding the material to the soil surface instead of leaving it sitting on top.

Hay risks weather moving it, leaving your site exposed. Stabi-Mulch binds tightly to the surface and forms a thick, protective crust with the soil.

The saving with hay mulch keeps you happy until the first weather event occurs, and then you’re footing a rework bill for a second or even third application. Now you’ve paid 2-3x for the same result and the same risk.

Waiohiki Marae sits behind this stopbank. When the Regional Council rebuilt it, the job wasn’t done when the earth stopped moving: bare ground is exposed ground, and the next storm doesn’t wait for grass.

We ran our 3SRM process on this site. A fully site-specific blend, built for this soil, this slope and this asset. Not a spec copied off another job. A system built around long-term erosion control, vegetation succession, and protection of the asset the council is responsible for.

The stopbank holds back the water, and the vegetation holds the stopbank.

A stopbank doesn’t fail in the calm. It fails in the storm.
So the vegetation protecting it can’t just look green. It has to hold ground when the water comes.

On this Hawke’s Bay stopbank, the seed blend wasn’t picked off a shelf. It was developed through our three-stage SRM process:

Discovery — understanding the soil, slope, exposure, site conditions, and project requirements.

Analysis — identifying the erosion risks, establishment challenges, and long-term performance needs.

Specification — engineering the right seed blend, application method, and revegetation system for that specific site.

That specification included:

Ryegrass for fast strike — quick cover, early root development, and surface protection during the critical establishment window.

Plantain for deeper rooting — slower to establish, but contributing a stronger root profile and improved soil binding as the system matures.

Clover to support long-term soil health — helping the vegetation system improve season after season, rather than just pass the first inspection.

Because on infrastructure like this, green isn’t enough.

Developers file stabilisation under compliance cost. The bigger number is on the calendar.

A site you can’t sign off is a site you can’t move to the next stage. Bare ground that fails an inspection parks the programme while you fix it, re-inspect, and wait for the weather to cooperate.

Every week in that holding pattern is your money sitting in dirt instead of moving towards settlement. Holding costs, finance, delayed stage releases: they all keep running, and stabilisation sits right in front of the path to handover.

Inferior mulch ignores this. Something that blows off and gets reapplied becomes two more spray days, another inspection, and a programme sliding right while the clock keeps ticking.

Stabilisation that holds the first time is the answer.

If your handover date matters more than 30c/m², that’s the maths worth running.

Stabi-Mulch is only as good as the surface it lands on.

It’s a premium product: NZ made, 28% natural lignin binder, holds 13x its weight in water. But on a rolled, heavily compacted site, even the best mulch can struggle to bind with the surface particles. Smooth and sealed gives it nothing to grip.

And that’s not a product problem, it’s a prep problem.

Surface prep is what lets Stabi-mulch bind tightly with the surface particles, binding them tightly together, creating that permeable crust that stops dust and sediment moving. Skip it, and you’re paying to do the job twice.

Winter doesn’t stop earthworks. But across most NZ councils it changes the rules: tighter controls, closer scrutiny, and less margin for a site that isn’t holding.

How much bare ground you’re carrying is what gets you through winter, or doesn’t. Wetter conditions and less recovery time between fronts turn an exposed surface that was fine in summer into a run-off risk, fast. And councils know exactly when to look for it.

The way you keep working is to stabilise as you go, not leave ground exposed and hope the weather holds.
On bigger jobs that’s progressive stabilisation: lock down each area as earthworks finish, rather than saving it all for the end. The site never carries more bare ground than it can defend.

Stabi-Mulch binds on contact and is classified as stabilised under GD-05 the day it goes down, so there’s no waiting on grass strike in the season you can least afford it.
