Seed on the ground doesn't mean the site's stabilised. Most of the time, you need 80% grass strike before it's classified that way.

Until you get there, sign-off waits. And the longer it takes, the bigger the window for a weather event to cause erosion and send you back to redo the work at extra cost.

Instant Green has been family-owned for around 20 years, and we now run crews out of Auckland, Waikato, Napier and Christchurch.

That means the same team, the same gear and the same Stabi-Mulch whether it's a subdivision on the edge of Auckland or a council reserve in Canterbury.

We're prequalified for health and safety through Tōtika, so that box is ticked before we arrive. And on bigger projects we come back for each stage as the earthworks move through, so the crew on site already knows the job.

Waiohiki Marae took the full force of Cyclone Gabrielle. This new stopbank was part of making sure the community is better protected next time the weather turns.

A stopbank only holds if the ground on it holds. Stabi-Mulch stabilises fresh earthworks on application, then the grass takes its time to come through and lock it in.

Stabi-Mulch went on and the bank was stabilised straight away.

Stopbanks get tested in the storm, and the grass on them has to hold when the water comes up.

The seed blend on this Hawke's Bay stopbank was chosen for that job, using our 3SRM process:

Discovery: getting to know the soil, slope, exposure and what the project needs.

Analysis: working out the erosion risks, what could slow establishment, and how the bank needs to perform long term.

Specification: settling on the seed blend, application method and revegetation approach for this site.

The blend came together like this:

Ryegrass strikes fast, giving early cover and roots while the bank is most exposed.

Plantain takes longer, then roots deeper and binds the soil as the cover matures.

Clover builds soil health, so the cover keeps improving season after season.

Every species has a role in keeping this asset protected.

Stabi-Mulch is our own NZ-made wood fibre mulch, mechanically shredded and held together by its natural lignin binder. It locks onto the soil the moment it goes down, so the site is GD-05 compliant straight away while the grass comes through in its own time.

Big sites or tight ones, our crew and gear cover the ground quickly and leave a clean, even finish.
