Day 2 of JLE Apprentice Training & Development Week and things got hands-on!

Our apprentices rotated through 4 stations packed with practical tasks — a mix of education, tips and tricks, and the chance to sharpen (or discover!) skills they'll carry throughout their careers.

Our mechanical apprentices tackled the detail work — reading and understanding drawings, nailing correct measuring and alignment, and carrying out NDT checks on their own fabricated pieces.

Our electrical apprentices had their problem-solving hats on — fault finding across different environments, correctly identifying equipment, selecting the right materials for the job, and keeping their cool in a simulated breakdown situation.

What made the day extra special? Seeing a brilliant mix of our current tradespeople, some familiar faces from our 'retired' JLE crew, and other industry professionals all roll up their sleeves to help make it happen. That kind of knowledge sharing is priceless!

🏆 Winners or Cheaters? You Decide! 😂

A little ingenuity got them an extra challenge… but it still wasn't enough to stop them! 🙌

A huge congratulations to Thomas B, Justin, Aiden & Sam Y – the champions of the JLE Inaugural Amazing Race 2026 Edition! 🎉🏁

They found a creative shortcut, paid the price with a penalty challenge, and STILL came out on top. That's not cheating – that's just problem solving! 😅💪

Well done lads, legends of the race! 🌟

18 apprentices. One location. One goal.

The inaugural JLE Apprentice Training & Development Week is officially underway right here in New Plymouth!

We've brought together apprentices from right across the country for a week dedicated entirely to their growth — and Day One did not disappoint.

Tuesday's sessions featured guest speakers and JLE subject matter experts who dove straight in — sharing what it means to be part of the bigger JLE picture, what's expected, and how each of these apprentices can truly make their mark.

This is just the beginning!

At JLE, our people are our biggest advocates — and that means everything to us.

When we ask our team what brought them to JLE, the answers are always genuine. Mates recommending the company to each other. The draw of working on large-scale industrial systems and meaningful infrastructure. The chance to learn from experienced tradespeople in a company with a strong reputation. A workplace that genuinely prioritises safety, teamwork, and growth.

That word-of-mouth culture doesn't come from nowhere — it's earned every day by the people who show up, do quality work, and look out for each other on the job.

From apprentices just starting out to experienced tradespeople who've been in the industry for years, JLE is a place where everyone plays a part in something bigger.

Whether it's a complex infrastructure project across New Zealand or hands-on work in the Pacific, our team knows their contribution matters.

We're proud to be a company people recommend to their mates, their whānau, and the next generation of tradies.

Huge congratulations to House of Science NZ!

Amazing news that they've been confirmed as the nationwide supplier of science kits for primary and intermediate schools across New Zealand!

We've been proud supporters of House of Science since 2022, helping to provide electrical-themed kits that teach tamariki the fundamentals of electricity through hands-on fun. There's nothing better than seeing kids learn through doing—sparking curiosity and maybe even inspiring future electricians and engineers!

It's fantastic to see this interactive, practical approach to learning being recognised and rolled out nationally. By early to mid-2027, schools and kura right across the country will have access to these brilliant resources.

Well done to the whole House of Science team—this is a huge achievement and we're excited to continue supporting you as you grow!

We’re really pleased to share some exciting news. The Government has confirmed House of Science as the supplier for the nationwide rollout of science and pūtaiao kits. Over time, this will enable us to provide curriculum‑aligned, hands‑on science kits for Years 0–8 learners in all state and state‑integrated schools and kura, helping teachers bring science to life in classrooms across the country.

Kit delivery will continue in selected regions based on our current reach, with the number of participating schools and regions increasing throughout the year. Full national coverage is expected by early to mid‑2027.

This is a significant milestone for our organisation and a real credit to the dedication of our team. It also reflects the encouragement, advocacy and goodwill of our wider House of Science community, including friends and supporters like you, and we’re very grateful for the role you’ve played in helping us get here.

The opportunity before us now is incredibly exciting, but there is a lot to do. We are in the process of refining our operating model to allow us to scale up effectively and deliver the contract with excellence. We’re also considering how we can continue working with our valued supporters and partners as we move into this next phase, and we look forward to exploring what that might look like in the months ahead.

Thank you again for your ongoing support, we truly couldn’t have done this without you 💛
