Everyone wants more renewable energy in New Zealand, but who’s going to build it?
We’re facing a serious shortage of qualified tradespeople in NZ, and not enough apprentices are coming through the system.
The challenge? Trade businesses carry the cost, risk, and responsibility of training apprentices while trying to keep up with existing workloads.
Without more support for businesses to train the next generation, our renewable energy goals could hit a workforce bottleneck.
The workforce is infrastructure too, the Government AND New Zealanders needs to care about this issue.

If we're serious about reducing our reliance on LNG in the future, then biofuel production here in New Zealand deserves a lot more attention.
In this video I cover:
1. What biofuel actually is
2. What we can make it from
Biofuel could play an important role in New Zealand's energy future. I'm not saying it's the silver bullet, but producing fuel from our own waste streams and renewable resources seems like a conversation worth having. Thoughts?

What would helping moving NZ away from LNG to electricity look like? We need to think about three things:
1. Cost, and who can realistically take that on 2. Time to design, build, and install 3. Electrical capacity and whether we can handle the extra load
If we don't get these things right, we're going to need a port, it would be bad if we don't get this right

I think a lot of people opposing the LNG terminal are overlooking something really important. The reality of moving commercial gas users to electricity isn’t simple. What if the LNG terminal isn’t about keeping us on gas forever? What if it’s about avoiding a crisis while we transition away from it. We work with businesses that rely on multiple commercial gas equipment every day, all day, and their experience is a big part of this conversation that’s being missed

When we looked at investing in solar for our business, we focused on three simple questions:
1️. How much will it save us
2️. How long will it take to pay for itself
3️. What is the lifetime value of the investment
For us, the numbers stacked up.
Our solar system is expected to pay for itself in around 6 years. After that, we're forecasting savings of at least $10,000 per year for another 14 years.
That's potentially $140,000+ in savings after the system has already paid itself off.
Too often people focus only on the upfront cost. We prefer to look at the long-term return. Like any good investment, it's not just about what you spend today. it's about the value it creates over time.
Have you looked at the lifetime value of your energy costs lately? ☀️

We've had a lot of enquiries about solar lately, so we thought we'd share the 5 things to consider from our own experience.
Installing solar isn't just about the panels - there are a number of factors to consider, including your roof, ownership of the building, battery storage, exporting to the grid, and available green loans.
In this video, I talk through some of the key things we looked at before deciding to install solar at our workshop.

After reviewing our entire fleet, we found that only one of our working vehicles currently made sense to move to electric - so we made the change.
We’ve traded one of our fossil fuel utes for a fully electric TOYOTA ute, which will charge during the day at our workshop using the EV charger we’re installing onsite.
This vehicle travels around 2,000km per month and was costing us roughly $500 per month in fuel alone.
When we compared the running costs of electric vs fuel, the numbers stacked up well enough that the investment should pay itself back in around three years.
For us, this isn’t about replacing every vehicle overnight - it’s about making practical decisions where the numbers and vehicle capability make sense.
