Client bought these awesome antique pendant lights from overseas and wanted them installed.

What looked to be a simple install turned into a bit more. Once we inspected them, we found they weren’t compliant with NZ standards as they were Class 1 metal light fittings with no protective earth.

We took apart both fittings, installed the required earthing, reassembled and carried out testing before installation.

Safe, compliant and they came up looking immaculate 💡⚡️

This switchboard had definitely done its job. Most of the circuits were still on the original ceramic fuses, with only two newer circuits protected by RCBOs. As soon as we opened it, we could hear crackling from loose connections and damaged wiring.

We upgraded the switchboard with new RCD protection and MCBs throughout, removed the old asbestos backing panel, and gave it a much cleaner finish.

Safer, tidier, and ready for many more years of service.

This is the second burnt out switch we’ve attended in the last two weeks.

The first photo shows the inside of a damaged oven isolating switch, and the second shows the new replacement of what it should look like.

While we can’t say for certain what caused this one, damage like this is commonly caused by a loose connection or a failing switch, creating excessive heat over time.

If your switch has a loose mechanism, doesn’t switch on or off properly, feels warm to the touch, is making crackling noises, gives off a burning smell, or is showing signs of discolouration, don’t ignore it. These are all warning signs that should be checked before they become a bigger problem.

It’s a relatively simple repair that can help prevent much more serious damage.

2025 has officially wrapped up — a year full of projects big and small, and plenty learned along the way. One of our recent completions was this cozy 3-bedroom home, completed alongside Tony Su Construction. From start to finish, it’s a solid build with quality workmanship and thoughtful details throughout. Grateful for the work, the lessons, and the good people we get to work with. Looking forward to what 2026 brings. ⚡️
