🌿 Leith Consulting is thrilled to shine a spotlight on our amazing clients, Shane and Eileen Walker, for their remarkable wetland restoration project at the Walker Home Farm in Te Horo, Parahamuti! 🌿
In collaboration with numerous agencies, including the Greater Wellington Regional Council, Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki and Fonterra, Shane and Eileen are setting a stellar example of how cohesion in dairy farming and positive environmental outcomes can go hand-in-hand. Through their extraordinary passion and dedication, they've given up large portions of their land and invested significant time and financial resources in order to achieve this incredible outcome.
At Leith Consulting, we feel privileged to work alongside such wonderful people who share our values of "Investing in the future." Projects like this are vital for creating green spaces where native wildlife can thrive and fish populations flourish.

🎄🎄December can be such a hectic month for many. We loved being able to deliver over $1,000 worth of Christmas love to children in Levin-Ōtaki who, through no fault of their own, are doing it tough at the moment. Many thanks to the incredible organisers behind the Fill a Shoebox Horowhenua - Christmas for Everyone campaign - this kaupapa is a wonderful reminder of the spirit of Christmas and the value of connected communities 🧡🖤

🏘🏘 Well the MDRS have certainly been the flavour of the month for developments in the greater Wellington region, however, in recent weeks our planners have been dedicated to rural subdivision projects affected by the National Policy Statement for Highly Productive Land.

This new NPS - which seeks to protect land containing the best food growing soils - sets a clear direction for subdivision and development to be avoided on land containing versatile soils❌

There will be a number of rural lifestyle type subdivision developments and proposed plan changes affected by this and many will no longer be able to proceed. It has been a pleasure to work with our local government clients to get a number of live applications granted prior to the NPS taking effect last week - giving certainty to those who has already invested in the process set by the preceding planning framework ✅

Looking ahead, the NPS now gives landowners, neighbours, mana whenua and local authorities in affected areas certainty that highly productive land is to be conserved for food and fibre production🌱🌾

🏘️🏦 Did you know alot of new businesses need to secure resource consent in order to get up and running? This adds an extra element of risk which can be super stressful.

We love helping new businesses secure their founding and were pleased to gain resource consent on a non-notified basis for this new business - Home4all - a unique and much-needed day programme in Kāpiti for people with early and moderate dementia 🧡🖤

🥳🥳 We love sports clubs! They play a huge role in bringing local communities together whilst helping boost people's mental health, fitness levels, social connections, self-esteem, and creativity. Last month, Director Monique Leith ran a lunchtime seminar with local industry on the upcoming changes to the Kāpiti Coast District Plan which focus on implementing the Resource Management (Enabling Housing Supply and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2021 including the highly anticipated Medium Density Residential Standards. We also touched on the fantastic Streamlined Housing Process which is being rolled out in the Horowhenua District.

The construction industry has been incredibly fast paced for several years now and there is immense pressure on our architects and builders to deliver on projects that have been on waitlists for months. Not only can this have a big impact on our mental health, but it makes stepping away from "work" difficult, at best.

Full credit to everyone who took the time to pause and connect over this! A big part of delivering improved housing outcomes lies in education. We only know what we know. Now, we have a bunch of very clever people at the coalface in Kāpiti who are positioned to empower their clients to deliver on some of these improved outcomes when the new rules roll in next month.

🧡🖤We are very proud supporters of Work Ready Kāpiti! Their commitment to helping local youth transition from the classroom (or home) to employment is outstanding. Alongside their "Passport" programme which teaches youth the 10 most sought-after skills as rated by employers, they provide year-round work experience opportunities and 1 on 1 interviews with local industry. Getting out there and finding your jive can be a really tough thing to do for some of our youth so helping them find their way into meaningful employment is super satisfying, and an awesome investment in the future....we think!🖤🧡
