CONGRATULATIONS QUINN! We're celebrating at Mexteds today as Quinn Ford graduates from his apprenticeship in Heavy Automotive Engineering - Agricultural Equipment. His MITO training advisor Richard Hainsworth is full of praise for Quinn's work ethic, completing his studies well over a year ahead of his expected finish date. We're super proud of him too. Here he is receiving his certificate from Richard Hainsworth, along with his supervisor Grant Dixon, our Workshop Manager (right) and Shane Maddren, our GM (left). Awesome work Quinn!

Big week for the Mexteds' team at the Wellington High Performance Indoor Cricket Centre! We're giving this elite facility a full end-of-season reset - stripping back the top 20mm with our Koro machine, laying fresh Patumahoe clay and laser levelling for a perfect finish. Then it's a 10-12 week grow-in before it's ready for training again for the Cricket Wellington Firebirds, Blaze, Blackcaps and White Ferns, this one deserves nothing but the best.

Wimbledon here he comes! Our groundsman Tawera Tito is heading to London next week to take up the opportunity of a lifetime – joining the 2026 Wimbledon grounds team preparing grass courts for one of the world’s most prestigious tennis events.

It’s a wonderful opportunity for Tawera, a keen tennis player and golfer, who began his career in sports turf just two years ago when he was introduced to Mexteds through Partners Porirua Youth 2 Work programme.

Last year he began his Sports Turf apprenticeship with Primary ITO and was recently awarded his Level 3 certificate. When he returns to Mexteds in November, his main goal is to finish his Level 4 and become fully qualified.

In the last few months, Tawera has been promoted to looking after all the sports parks in Wainuiomata for Hutt City Council, including the premier fields at William Jones Park. That’s a real vote of confidence, and he’s earned it.

He's pictured here with Jason Foster his training advisor from Primary ITO and Mexteds' contract manager Josh Dewar.

As Wellington College's 150th anniversary celebrations approach this April, Mexteds' staff have been hard at work getting the playing fields in top condition.
The seasonal shift from cricket to rugby is underway, and our groundsman James has been slicing the No. 1 field to relieve compaction, while Todd's has been on the Vredo drill (pictured), undersowing and fertilising to keep things looking their best.

There’s plenty more autumn renovations to come too—Todd will be out and about today with the Vredo drill in Eastbourne and Fraser Park as part of our Hutt City Council maintenance contract.

Nomads United AFC will notice a significant difference in their Tulett Park fields this year, following Mexteds' installation of 7,000 square metres of SISGrass™ hybrid turf on behalf of Christchurch City Council, as part of their sportsfield upgrade programme.

With our operator Sean having just reached the halfway mark, the benefits of the hybrid stitching are already being seen as the fields continue to be used for training and matches. The new surface will deliver improved durability and drainage, reduce ongoing maintenance and ensure faster recovery after play.

Our hard-working team have hit a huge milestone completing the install of 11,500 metres of primary drains at Te Whiti Park over the last few weeks. Brent, Jamayne, Rupe and Josh have been hit with a wild summer storm and recent flooding during the project, but now the sun is back and alongside an irrigation upgrade, Stage 1 of the project is complete.
In Stage 2 we'll be re-levelling the #1 League field and installing a new cricket block.
The work is part of an upgrade to three HHutt City Councilparks this summer - beginning with 10,000 metres of primary drains installed before Xmas at Petone Rec, and to be followed by another 6,500 metres of primary drains at Wise Park, Wainuiomata.
