It’s taken a while to process this

On the 13th of April I received the most devastating news, I was told my best friend, mentor and general life coach had passed away

I had started working for Gordon when I was 15.

It was the summer holidays of 2002 that I called him asking for a job, he pick me up and took me to work. I was always excited to be going to work with him, if he said jump I’d jump.. he took my to mystery creek to watch the fencing competition, I was inspired and loved all the different adventures we’d go on and places we’d worked

I got to work from just north of castle point at Owāhanga Station to way up north of gisborn and west of wairoa up the Ruakituri Valley and on the famous stations around Taihape like pukeokahu station Timahanga Station Ngamatea Station .. he egged me on if it was good or bad , I’d end up with no eye brows and endless laughs.

In the recent 11 years we’d spoken to each other almost every day, first it was to build me back after a car crash that put me in a coma for 3 weeks, broke my femur in 3 places, broke my hand and a head injury .

It happened in march 2014 . In August that year he took me hunting and flew me up into southern alps.. I could walk up but he’d have to help me walk down

We started the business after his encouragement and he mentored me almost every day to get me started, after a while we’d be bouncing ideas off each other and he’d still egg me on into building us to what we are today, we’d try catch up every time he was down here or I was heading north.

I was lucky enough to spend some time with him recently while he was in Queenstown for a 40th

I took him hunting with a friend on our boat for the day and drop him off at ayrburn, late of course and no shower but he’d got a deer and that’s what he loved

I talk about him every day, the memories I’ve had with him are some of me best I’ve got

Rest in peace my friend ❤️❤️❤️
