A great sunny Nelson day has our lads out and about all over the region.

Here's an image of Jonte working hard on a digger in Appleby (Ben's taking the photo) to get our clients leaking old supply pipe replaced with a nice new pipe and connected up to the water tank.

Our guys do it all, from leaking pipes and taps, hot water issues, blocked drains right through to large commercial sized jobs.

We have the know how and the experience. Everyday is something different and it keeps us on our toes, and we love it.

To all our wonderful Tuffnell Plumbing Drainage & Gas customers of 2025, what a privilege it has been to serve you all, to take care of your emergencies, to build your new bathroom dreams, to roll up our sleeves when the drains are overflowing, to take care of what most husbands can't. Its not always pretty but we get the job done.

To our suppliers, without you we can't get the gear we need (btw we always need it yesterday) to do our jobs correctly. You guys are another cog in our wheel that helps us crank forward and we thank the suppliers that make our lives that much easier.

And lastly but certainly not least, to our Staff, our team, our work family. You guys and gals are awesome, you come in each day and make massive efforts to assist home owners, builders, renovators, council workers, landlords, developers and yes even those bloody Architects.

Your skillset, knowledge, attitude and willingness is what sets you guys apart from our competitors. The frequent positive feedback we get is down to you guys, doing an awesome job in the field and in the office.

2025 has been an interesting year to say the least, but we got through better than expected and we can now sink a beverage or two to celebrate.

Right time for the housekeeping stuff. Tuffnell Plumbing Drainage & Gas are officially closed from 3pm today (Dec 23rd) and resume normal hours at 7.30am Monday 12th January.

If you are thinking of utilising the new rules in regards to Granny Flat builds, its always best to get information on the services in the nearby ground first.

This new exemption rule will be a game changer for people wanting to add smaller structures on their propertys, but it pays to do your homework first.

Check with us before you build! There has been much anticipation and excitement around the upcoming exemption for minor residential units up to 70m².

The latest news is that while the changes have been announced, the new rules won’t be law until early next year. This means that any building works done to establish a “granny flat” before this are not considered to be exempt and will still require a building consent.

However, before you start planning your project to construct a new mancave, shed or garage, you’ll need to check whether you’re building over any underground services.

The same goes for throwing up a new fence, putting down a driveway or path, or doing a bit of retaining work – it may sound like a straightforward DIY job over a few weekends, but there can be serious implications.

Throughout Tasman District, there are things called council easements, but other utility providers like power and telecommunications companies may also hold them. An easement is a legal right of way or similar right over another owner’s ground or property.

They provide the right for us to have services such as water mains, sewers, manholes, pumping mains, pumping stations, stormwater pipes, and their associated equipment, on privately owned property. The area covered by an easement can’t be built on or obstructed.

A shout out to our team who are absolutely killing it on the World Stoke project, working alongside Naylor Nelson Construction.

Here is a couple of the lads from our awesome team onsite (Ben & Tee) who are hard at it working in the plantroom area. Keep up the good works boys.

We are pleased to be able to recognise our Team onsite who are working alongside Scott Construction Nelson on the SOHO development at Nile Street.

The project is tracking nicely thanks to our leading Plumbing foreman Karl, who is showing a cool head and experience onsite, complimented by our Plumbing Manager Jed Smith working feverishly in the background to ensure all the key timelines are are met.
