Got a hazardous tree near the house, shed or fence line? You don't need heavy machinery tearing up your lawn or garden to get it down safely.
As climbing arborists, we take trees down piece by piece, lowering sections with ropes so nothing crashes onto what you want to keep. No ruts in the paddock, no churned-up driveway, no damage to the garden beds around it.

Bit of a different one from us lately 👇

This was a big old elm (around 130 years) that was heading straight for the firewood pile. Instead, we milled it on site and gave it a second life.

We’ve got a chainsaw mill capable of handling logs up to 1.5m wide, which opens up some cool options when larger trees need to come down. Slabs, feature pieces, outdoor tables — or even just holding onto something with a bit of history rather than cutting it all into firewood.

It’s not something we push on every job, but if you’ve got a decent tree coming out and you’ve ever thought “it’d be a shame to waste that” — it’s definitely worth a yarn.

Sometimes there’s more in a tree than just firewood 👍

The guys at Garston Hops seem to love watching us make a mess. This 100 year old Pine was a big threat to the Hop farm as you can see by the large amount of decay in the base. Nice to be up in some drier country 😅

Side weight reduction on a windswept Pine.

You might notice it's neighbor lost a large limb recently in some high winds. It's our job when we are on your property to look for hazards and things only a trained eye can see. We notified the clients this tree had the potential to fail in high winds. They chose to make it safe while still retaining the shelter belt.

Height reductions done right 🌳✂️

Not every tree needs a haircut — but when it does, how it’s done makes a huge difference.

A proper height reduction by an arborist isn’t just “cutting it shorter.” We’re selectively reducing back to natural growth points so the tree keeps its shape, stays healthier, and handles wind better. Done properly, it can extend the life of the tree and reduce risk without turning it into a hedge or a bunch of ugly stubs.

Using machines (like hedge trimmers or saw heads) definitely has its place — they’re great for shelterbelts, farm lines, and situations where speed and uniformity matter more than long-term structure. But on specimen trees around homes? That approach usually leads to fast regrowth, weak attachment, and the need for constant re-trimming… which adds up over time.

If you’re wanting to keep your trees long term, a one-off or occasional arborist reduction is often the better investment compared to yearly machine trimming.

Not sure if your tree actually needs reducing? That’s the first question we ask too. Sometimes a tidy-up or weight reduction is all that’s needed — sometimes it’s best left alone.
