Employee Recognition Friday

This week we're introducing one of the newest members of the Scotts team, Stanley.

Having recently completed a Pre-Trade course through NMIT and gained practical experience through work placements with several building companies, he's already building a strong foundation for a successful career in construction. His goal is to continue developing his skills and eventually become a qualified builder.

Outside of work, you'll find him spending time with mates, heading off camping, and making the most of the outdoors.

Fun fact: 🎾
"Back in my day I was quite the tennis professional, playing all around the country... wherever Mum was willing to drive me!"

Although he's only been with Scotts for around two months, he's thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the team and getting stuck into projects. His favourite job so far has been building the new storage shed at the Boxman workshop.

We're excited to have him on board and look forward to watching his career grow with Scotts.

Scotts Out & About

Our team has been busy delivering roof replacement projects across Nelson.

At a residential property, we're replacing the existing membrane roofing system along with sections of timber to ensure the home remains weathertight and protected for years to come. A big thanks to Budhi for his hard work and attention to detail on this project.

At the same time, we're undertaking a roof replacement for a local business in town. Working in an occupied commercial environment requires careful planning and coordination, and George has been doing an excellent job managing the works on site.

From residential repairs and upgrades through to commercial projects, our teams continue to deliver quality workmanship across the region.

Well done to everyone involved.

Employee Recognition Friday

This week we're recognising Pahia, whose strong connection to his whakapapa, willingness to learn, and positive attitude make him a valued member of the Scotts team.

When asked why he chose a career in building, Pahia's answer was simple.

"I love physical work and using my hands on the job, while also keeping active."

It's this practical approach and eagerness to get stuck in that have helped him continue to develop his skills and grow within the industry.

One of the things Pahia enjoys most about working at Scotts is the knowledge and experience he gains every day.

"I enjoy working at Scott’s because of the knowledge I gain for everyday life and also the skills I can learn for personal use at home."

When it comes to favourite projects, one stands above the rest.

"My favourite job was the papakāinga as I got to do some mahi on my own whakapapa where my whānau grew up and are still growing to this day."

Being able to contribute to a project with such personal significance made it a memorable experience and a reminder of the impact construction can have on communities and future generations.

Thank you, Pahia, for the positive contribution you make every day. We look forward to seeing your continued growth and success in the industry.

Project Spotlight | Brightwater Hall Re-Roof

We're proud to be currently delivering the re-roofing works at the iconic Brightwater Hall for Tasman District Council.

While a re-roof may seem straightforward on paper, this project presented some unique challenges. One of the biggest undertakings was the installation of a full temporary weatherproof enclosure over the building, allowing works to continue while protecting the hall and ensuring the project could be delivered safely and efficiently.

Projects like these require careful planning, coordination, and a team willing to tackle the unexpected. The result is a refreshed roof that will help protect and preserve this important community asset for many years to come.

A special thanks to Chris Dallyn and the wider project team for their hard work, commitment, and attention to detail throughout the project. Delivering complex works on existing community buildings takes a great deal of skill, and the team should be proud of the outcome.

Well done to everyone involved.

Employee Recognition Friday

Brendon Gridley may not be a direct employee, but as a long-term contractor and valued member of our site teams, he has become an important part of the Scotts family. This week we're shining a spotlight on Brendon and the passion, energy, and commitment he brings both on and off the construction site.

When asked what he enjoys most about working with Scotts, the answer was simple:

"The people, without a doubt. Scotts has an awesome team culture where everyone is treated with respect and works together to get the job done right. Even as a contractor, I’ve always felt like part of the family rather than just another number on site."

One of his favourite projects has been the work at the new Maitai Specialist School, where he's enjoyed watching the development come together alongside a great crew.

"It’s been great seeing something you’ve helped build make a positive impact on the community."

Outside of work, things don't slow down. Alongside his wife Linda and their three adult children, he runs a professional go-kart racing team that competes throughout New Zealand and Australia.

Between organising travel, tuning karts, chasing lap times and helping drivers reach the podium, there's always something happening.

"The pressure, teamwork and attention to detail required in racing aren’t that different from construction—just a lot noisier."

When he's not on a construction site or at the race track, you'll likely find him out fishing, spending time with family, or making sure the lawns are looking immaculate.

As he puts it:

"My life is basically split between construction sites, race tracks, fishing spots, and the ride-on mower."

Thank you for everything you bring to the Scotts team. We appreciate your hard work, positive attitude, and the experience you bring to every project.

Project Spotlight | Nelson City Council Community Arts Hub

We are proud to be delivering the Community Arts Hub Project at Millers Acre, a project that will create a vibrant new home for Nelson’s arts community in the heart of the city.

The project involves the refurbishment of both the northern and southern Millers Acre buildings, the installation of an accessible lift to the southern building, and a comprehensive internal fit-out to create a welcoming and functional space for artists, creatives, and the wider community.

Once complete, the Arts Development Agency will occupy this highly visible gateway site, providing a central hub for artistic collaboration, exhibitions, workshops, events, and creative enterprise.

The development represents an important investment in Nelson’s creative sector and supports the vision outlined in He Tātai Whetū – Whakatū Nelson’s Arts and Creativity Strategy.

Designed by Arthouse Architects and delivered in partnership with Nelson City Council, this project will help strengthen connections across the arts community while making creativity more accessible and visible to locals and visitors alike.

A special acknowledgement to Site Manager Matt Welford and the wider project team for their work on what will become an important cultural asset for our region.

We look forward to sharing progress as this exciting project continues to take shape.

A huge night for a great cause.

Scott Construction was proud to take part in Heave for Hospice, supporting the incredible work Hospice does for our community.

A massive shout out to our team: Scott W, Ernst, Johan, Reuben, Ben K, John H, Dave T and Chris from ITM. A special mention to Emmsy for leading from the front as team captain, and to Becs and Steve for pulling it all together behind the scenes.

The biggest winner on the night was Hospice, and we were proud to play a small part in supporting such an important organisation.

Congratulations to Downer on taking out the win, and we are pretty stoked to come away as runners up for the evening.

Thanks again to everyone who gave up their time to compete, cheer us on and support the cause.

Better luck next year, Gibbons.
