You'd never guess this started life as a shed.

A separate shed on the property, now a studio and entertaining space you'd happily host in. It got the full treatment: insulation, tongue-and-groove on the walls and ceiling, a new floor, a raised ceiling with skylights, and a new kitchen.

The tongue-and-groove gives the space its warmth and character. The insulation behind it is what makes it comfortable to use all year, not just on a sunny day.

The stacker sliders don't just open — they slide right back over the external cladding, so you get one big, uninterrupted opening straight onto the deck. No frame in the way, no sense of "inside" stopping and "outside" starting. Just one space, and you can stand in the kitchen and feel the whole backyard open up in front of you. Getting the floor, door tracks, and deck framing dead level so that it feels as one space takes planning before a single door frame or decking board goes down.

Two concrete fireplaces, one indoor, one outdoor. One anchoring the living room, one warming the outdoor deck. Overhead, the trusses are left fully exposed in the vaulted ceiling, raw materials doing the talking instead of being boxed in. Sliding doors open the whole thing up so inside and outside just become one space.

A kitchen we've just wrapped up. Full-height white cabinetry, a black feature rangehood, and existing kauri flooring given a new lease of life.
