Lead Traffic Management / Civil Operator
Fotheringhame Contractors Ltd (FCL) – Western Bay of Plenty
Fotheringhame Contractors Ltd is looking for a practical, field-based Lead Traffic Management / Civil Operator to join our team.
This is a hands-on site role, not an office position. We want someone who can take ownership of temporary traffic management on our jobs, while also pitching in across the wider operation.
This role will suit someone who enjoys variety and wants to be a key part of a civil crew — not just traffic management, but also labouring, machine operating, and truck driving where required.
About the role
This is an on-the-ground position with a mix of:
Temporary Traffic Management leadership
Lead and manage TTM on site
Set up, maintain, adjust and pack down traffic management
Read and work to TMPs
Identify risks and make practical site-based decisions
Help ensure works are completed safely and efficiently
Civil crew support
Labouring across drainage, earthworks and roading projects
Machine operating where experienced and required
Truck driving where licensed
Supporting crews to keep jobs moving productively
This role is approximately 50% traffic management / 50% civil support, depending on workload and project requirements.
What we’re looking for
Current STMS qualification or solid traffic management experience in a lead site role
Confidence taking responsibility for TTM on active civil sites
A hands-on attitude and willingness to work alongside the crew
Ability to think ahead, solve problems, and adapt to changing site conditions
Civil construction experience preferred
Machine operating experience is an advantage
Truck licence highly desirable
Reliable, hardworking, and able to work as part of a team
This is not a traffic management office/coordinator position.
You will be out in the field, leading TTM where needed and working across other projects as part of the crew.
