We’ve awarded Northway the contract to design, build, finance, operate and maintain Warkworth to Te Hana through a Public Private Partnership (PPP).
Warkworth to Te Hana is a Road of National Significance (RONS), and is the first section of the Northland Corridor project. The new 26-kilometre motorway will connect to the Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway, opened in 2023, and is the second stage of the Ara Tūhono project. Together, these projects will strengthen the connection between Auckland and Northland and support the safe and efficient movement of people and freight.
The new route will improve journey reliability, reduce the impact of road closures through the Dome Valley and provide a safer alternative to the existing State Highway 1 (SH1). Travel times are expected to improve by around 7 to 10 minutes per journey, while reducing crash risks and improving access for communities and businesses.
Design and early works are expected to begin later in 2026. Follow us if you aren't already to get regular updates on our progress. You can also subscribe to our newsletter to get email updates from us: https://confirmsubscription.com/h/t/1D73378F1D284D14
