We are proud and excited to share the transformative work our teams have delivered in converting two aging stormwater ponds into a new sinuous wetland that will deliver lasting environmental and community benefits.
The project involved:
• Removing over 30 tonnes of aquatic w**d and pest plants
• Dredging, dewatering, and disposing of 7,000 tonnes of pond sediment
• Upgrading critical stormwater network connections
• Constructing and planting a new 9,500 m2 sinuous wetland
• Bulk earthworks and landscaping of a natural amphitheatre
In addition to enhancing Tāmaki Makaurau's flood resilience through improved stormwater management, the new wetland will also help improve the water quality of the Puhinui Creek catchment, reduce sediment discharge into the Manukau Harbour, and create more diverse habitats for native birdlife, fish, and plant species.
It has been a privilege to partner with Auckland Council and work alongside the Healthy Waters Design and Delivery teams to bring this important environmental restoration project to life.
A sincere thank you to our dedicated staff, trusted subcontractors, community stakeholders, Auckland Council, Due Drop Events Centre, and everyone who supported and contributed to the successful completion of this project. Together, we are helping create healthier waterways, stronger ecosystems, and more resilient communities for future generations.
