The Graveyard Shift Welcome to the Graveyard Shift! We’re a dedicated group of volunteers passionate about restoring dignity to overgrown graves.

Currently, we’re focused on tidying up two beautiful cemeteries: St John’s in Upper Hutt and Taita Cemetery in Lower Hutt.

These three little graves were tucked away in the bush. One of them looked like it had a visitor who'd come. The other two were slowly becoming overgrown and lost to nature. A little bit of time and TLC from Ross and Paul and they're now easy to access and be seen again.

We’re back at Taitā this Saturday! The weather is looking like it might be a bit overcast, with a high of 20 degrees. Feels like Spring is here!!

Come for an hour or stay for all three. No experience needed. We’ll provide the tools, safety gear and the usual banter.

And of course, we’ll finish with our shared morning tea at 12pm. We’ve got a lot of oranges at the moment, so there may be an experimental orange cake or slice making an appearance. No promises of Great British Bake Off standards, but we’re feeling optimistic. Terrible news to add - Selina (one of our bakers) is away on holiday in Perth, so no hot scones this time around. And probably no muffins either :(

We’ll keep an eye on the weather this week and confirm which area we’re tackling closer to Saturday.

Spring is here! She’s been gusty, but the sun is starting to warm things up again.

We’re back at Taitā this Saturday from 9am to 12pm, followed by our shared morning tea. There are definitely going to be cookies, and hopefully some of that delicious apple cake we hear Selina has been making 👀

PS: You’ll notice the map has two marked areas this time. Plan A is for favourable conditions. Plan B is for if there’s been recent rain, as it’s flatter and less slippery.

Weather watch: there’s a chance of a shower around 8am, but hopefully it’ll have passed through before we start.
