The breakthrough between the tunnels built between Britomart Station and Wyndham Street- and the new ones being built down the rest of Albert Street is close.

The construction crew at has just completed breaking through the tunnel plug into the eastern tunnel box under Wyndham Street!

On the left, you can see where demolition of the top of the western tunnel box plug has begun, with the rest of the plug being excavated before the demolition continues.

Not long to go now before the breakthrough is complete!

Inside the eastern tunnel box that has been opened, you can just spot the beginnings of a temporary airlock which will allow the tunnel fitout team to begin work inside the completed tunnels while the excavation continues on the other side.

These airlocks will ensure that dust from the excavation of spoil does not make its way into the completed tunnel boxes.
