A huge thank you to Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery Mark Mitchell for taking the time to visit Wairoa this evening and seeing firsthand how our district is managing the current severe weather event.

It was appreciated to have the opportunity to brief him on the situation, including impacts on SH2 and the wider district. We are grateful for the support and additional resources on the ground from partner agencies as we continue to respond.

While conditions remain unpredictable, our teams are focused, prepared, and working together to keep our community safe.

Minister Mark Mitchell took time to have a quick catch-up with Wairoa Civil Defence Controller Juanita Savage and Mayor Craig Little.
