As summer approaches, it’s a good time to think about where your water comes from and what happens to your wastewater.
Tasman has many lifestyle blocks that aren’t connected to our Council water or wastewater services. Instead, these properties need to manage their own water supply and wastewater, with many relying on rainwater tanks or private rural water schemes.
For people new to lifestyle block living, this can be a new responsibility. It’s important to know where your water comes from, where it is stored, how it is treated, and roughly how much your household uses. This will help you keep track of your supply and plan ahead during dry periods.
If your tanks are running low, you may need to arrange a water tanker top-up. There are a small number of local companies providing this service, but demand can be very high during summer. In the past, some households have had to wait two or three weeks for delivery.
Obviously, this is not ideal. Remember, we can’t help in this situation either because we don’t operate water tankers.
If you’re unsure about your water source or storage, now is a good time to check. Knowing your supply and understanding your household water use can help you avoid an unwelcome surprise when the summer sun finally arrives.
