Saying goodbye is hard, but saying goodbye to someone voluntarily moving to 40°C heat with giant spiders is just confusing... 🕷️🔥

Today is Rebecca McIlraith last day after 2 great years with us! She’s packing her bags and heading off to Perth to see if the grass (and sun) really is greener in Western Australia.
We’re going to miss her heaps-though we’re pretty sure her dog Enzo is going to miss being our site supervisor even more! 🐾
Bex, thank you for everything over the last two years. Perth won't know what hit it. Good luck across the ditch! 🎉✈️🇦🇺

SPECIALTY: Off-Road Electrical Rescue
OPERATOR: Jacob "The Hoff" (Chief Off-Road Navigator & Self-Appointed Turbo Enthusiast)

VEHICLE SPECS & ROAD LOG:

• Mission: Conquering muddy job sites, steep driveways, and Central Otago winter slush without calling a tow truck.
• Payload: Wall-to-wall tools, three miles of cable, and a suspicious amount of snacks.
• Traction Status: Permanently locked in 4WD.
• The Driver: Jacob insists the van talks back to him like the real Knight Rider, but we're pretty sure he's just talking to himself. 🏎️🤖

OPERATOR: Jordan (Chief Steering Wheel Handler & Self-Proclaimed Co-Pilot)

VEHICLE SPECS & FLIGHT LOG:
Mission: Single-handedly defeating Central Otago frost and summer heatwaves.
Payload: Packed to the roof with high-grade heat pumps, brackets, and heavy-duty install gear.
Flight Status: Flawless driveway landings across Wanaka with zero turbulence.
The Driver: Jordan strictly insists on being called "Captain," claims he does a full pre-flight safety briefing before every journey, and refuses to set off without his signature pilot sunglasses. 👨‍✈️🕶️

When Air Force One touches down at your place, first-class temperature control has officially landed. 🛬🔥❄️

So, the big boss Geoff was invited up by Ideal Electrical to the "big smoke" of Auckland last month to celebrate their massive 90th birthday at the Aviation Hall.

Naturally, the entire Hewson Electrical crew threw their hats in the ring to be his plus-one... but surprisingly, a bunch of sparkies in hi-vis couldn't quite compete with his wife. 🤷‍♂️😂
It was a full black-tie affair! Geoff actually scrubbed up surprisingly well (turns out he does own clothes without electrical tape on them), and Bernie was looking absolutely stunning as usual.

A huge shout-out to the team at Ideal Electrical for whisking them away for a weekend of partying, relaxation, and most importantly-forcing Geoff to actually take a single day off work! 🥂✈️

Meet "The Solar Sleigh" our fully electric vehicle and the ultimate sun-chaser of the fleet! ☀️✨

Name: Solar Sleigh
Make/Model: LDV eDeliver 9
Role: Solar Installer
Driver: Mark

This whisper-quiet, zero-emissions machine is packed to the roof with panels, inverters, and pure renewable energy power.

Why the name? Well, it delivers clean green power, glides down the road like it’s on ice, and Mark looks a bit like Santa - only if Santa were a Southern Viking. Plus, he insists he can fit more solar gear in the back than Santa packs on Christmas Eve! 🎅⚡

If you spot Mark cruising quietly around town in the Solar Sleigh, be sure to give him a wave! 👋

We offered to get him a proper birthday cake, but he insisted a bag of cable ties and a warm mug of refrigerant would do just fine.

Role: Official Sparky Shuttle & Mobile Workshop
Driver: Geoff (The Boss)
Current Status: Loaded to the brim, ready to roll, and single-handedly keeping the local electrical grid powered up!

Fun Facts:
• Engine Power: Driven by diesel, coffee, and Geoff’s playlist.
• Storage Capacity: Fits a full crew, enough gear to wire a small city, and always has room for one more tool box.
• Navigation: Doesn't even need GPS anymore - Volts Wagon knows every driveway in the area by heart.

Geoff handles the steering, but Volts Wagon does all the heavy lifting. If you see the wagon out on the road, drop a wave! 👋⚡

They say sparkies hate digging trenches... but clearly, no one told Bex! 🛠️⚡

When we asked her to dig a trench for some new mains cables, she took the job very seriously and may have gotten a wee bit carried away! 😅 Glad we caught her and stopped her before she ended up on the other side of town.

Great effort, Bex! 👏
