I am loving this project to make my new workbench! It’s going to look soo good. Changed out just standard framing timber to use reclaimed Rimu that I’ve machined up. The wasted space under my existing bench has always annoyed me and not having anywhere close to hand to put tools apart from all over the benchtop has made efficiency quite difficult. This new bench will be movable, to allow cleaning and opening the space up. It will incorporate systainer storage as well as drawers and shelving for other tools. It will also be beautiful! Half of the frame is glued up and storage boxes made. Assembly comes next weekend. .nz

On Sunday, which turned out to be one of the hottest days so far this summer, we smashed out a one day renovation of our rental flat. We had replaced the side path on Friday. On the Sunday we cleaned down, sanded and repainted the exterior and interior of the carport. Re did the garden and planted some new grasses and stained the retaining wall. All before real estate pics on Monday! Was pretty wrecked by the end of it. 🥵

Out with the old and in with the new MR005G Bluetooth radio. My old one was about 5 years old and stopped working a few weeks ago. Survived years on site, 2 tumbles out of my Ute and getting half drowned while fishing in the coromandel! Built Makita tough. Unfortunately not economical to repair anymore so looking forward to the upgraded model. Prefer this model for its Bluetooth functionality and the extra bass from the subwoofer. Can have tunes back on site!

I took a trip out into the boonies this afternoon to visit my friend Jude from He’s building a house for his family with Stuctural Insulated Panels. Was great to have a chat with him and get his thoughts on SIPS as we look to use them on an upcoming project. A much better, warmer way to build that creates a lot less waste on site. Really cool to see the Adhero in action as well. Unsurprisingly the whole house is sitting on grunty screwpiles! So no concrete, no spoil from drilled holes and next to no timber waste! Fantastic result! To top it all off, check out that view!!

I love my role as the President of the Auckland NZ Certified Builders Committee. I get to connect with a lot of builders and stakeholders in the construction industry but the coolest part of my job is being able to hand over a big ass cheque for $14,273 to Gina from after our Charity Golf day on Thursday. It was a great day with a great result. A lot of thanks goes to my committee and for all their Mahi they put into the day and all our sponsors for the event .co.nz apologies if I’ve forgotten anyone!

It’s been a couple of years since we’ve been down to the mighty Ruapehu and the first time under the new management. Turned out to be a very damp day! Only got a few runs but still soo good to get the board back under us. handled the adverse conditions like water off a ducks back!!😂😂 A few years ago it would have been a very different reaction. Got me thinking on the passage of time, so took a couple of pics at our old spots on the drive back. 2018 to 2024, amazing the difference 6 years can make! 😳 .turoa
