GOAT Property is growing — and we’re looking for a capable, practical, and reliable Property Maintenance Technician to join the team.

We specialise in residential and light commercial maintenance work across Wellington. Our work includes general repairs, minor building works, garden maintenance, exterior upkeep, and property manager callouts.

If you’re someone who takes pride in tidy workmanship, solves problems on-site, and communicates clearly — we want to hear from you.

🔧 What You’ll Be Doing

• General property repairs

• Minor building and maintenance tasks

• Garden maintenance and exterior upkeep

• Small repair works for property managers and private clients

• Working independently and as part of a small team

✅ You MUST Have:

• Full NZ Driver’s Licence

• Experience in property maintenance and gardening

• Your own basic hand tools and battery tools

• Confidence using smartphones and job management apps (or willingness to learn quickly)

• Good communication skills and professional presentation

• Ability to work unsupervised and manage time well

What if using more electricity was the best way to improve energy efficiency? It sounds counterintuitive, but electrifying the fossil fuel machines in our homes and cars can reduce overall household energy consumption by up to 70% – a far greater efficiency gain than measures like insulation and sealing, which have been the traditional focus.

As Electric Orchardist Mike Casey writes in an opinion piece for Build magazine, "while thermal envelope upgrades remain important, electrification offers a better return on investment for households. This goes against conventional wisdom, but it’s due to the price drops in solar, heat pumps and electric vehicles.

Thermal upgrades affect only space heating and cooling. That only makes up roughly one-third of total household energy use – or around 15% when vehicles are included.

"This means thermal envelope upgrades have an inherently limited benefit [when it comes to reducing energy bills]. Conversely, a solar install can halve the cost of all electrical energy consumption. Heat pumps can drop both space heating and water heating energy use by 70%, and an EV will drop transport energy use by 70%."

Batteries are an important technology to make the most of cheap solar and reduce the strain on the grid at peak times, while long-term, low-interest loans are needed to help more New Zealanders access the savings from going electric.

If the Government really wanted to reduce household bills, it should be focusing on making it easy for households to upgrade their machines and get solar, not on making it easier for the big incumbents.
