Johnsonville Mall Seeks Fast Track Approval for $150m Development 💛
In recent weeks speculation has been mounting about Stride’s plans for the Johnsonville Mall, and it has been confirmed that a fast-track resource consent for the Mall’s upgrade has been submitted for a $150m development.
Significant work and expense has been committed to get the Fast Track consent to this stage, which bodes well for the project progressing beyond the concept stage.
Previous plans have failed due to the global financial crisis in 2008 and a global pandemic in 2020. Let’s hope this new application doesn’t lead to a further global catastrophe.
Whether Costco will be confirmed as a tenant remains uncertain as no commitment has been announced publicly. The consent application is a step in the right direction for the precinct development and the door remains open for new tenants.
Thank you to Wellington City Deputy Mayor Ben McNulty, Councillors Andrea Compton and Greg O’Connor (and the late Tony Randle) for their advocacy of the project.
