Recently we said farewell to Craig, one of our brilliant electricians here at Northstar. 👋

After five years with Northstar, Craig is heading off on a new adventure in Australia.

Craig started with us while completing his electrical apprenticeship and went on to become a fully qualified electrician. Over the years, it’s been amazing to watch him grow, develop his skills and become such a valued part of the NorthStar team.

While we’re sad to see him go, we’re excited to see what’s next for him and wish him nothing but the best for his new adventure across the ditch!

Thanks for everything over the past five years, Craig you’ll definitely be missed by the team! ⚡🧡

Ella has been part of the Northstar team for just over a year and is currently completing her electrical apprenticeship. Having already achieved her Pre-Trade NCEA Level 3 qualification, she's building her skills every day alongside the team.

When she's not on the tools, Ella enjoys hanging out with friends, working on her car, and baking something delicious. 🚗🍰

⚡ Service Spotlight: EV Charger Installation

As electric vehicle ownership continues to grow across Wellington, Northstar Technical Services provides safe, compliant, and future-ready EV charger installations for both homes and businesses.

Every property's electrical setup is different, which is why we recommend a site visit before installation, not after.
It's how we make sure your charger goes in once, and goes in right.

A site assessment allows us to:
🔌 Check existing electrical capacity and load demand
🔌 Assess switchboard condition and available space
🔌 Identify whether electrical upgrades are required
🔌 Determine the safest, most efficient charger location
🔌 Plan ahead for future EVs or increased charging demand

All chargers are installed to New Zealand electrical standards — so your system can handle EV charging safely, without overload risk, nuisance tripping, or reduced performance.

🔥 Service Spotlight: Infrared Thermography

Most electrical faults don't start with a spark — they start with heat. Loose connections, overloaded circuits, and failing switchboard components all run hotter than they should long before they become visible, smell like anything, or trip a breaker.

That's exactly why we use infrared thermography: a thermal camera scan that spots these hot spots on live equipment, without powering anything down or opening up panels unnecessarily.

It's especially relevant right now — winter is New Zealand's highest-demand period for the grid, with heat pumps, hot water cylinders, and heaters all pulling extra load through switchboards and wiring that may not have been built for it.

A thermal scan is one of the simplest ways to catch a developing problem before it turns into an outage, a costly repair, or worse.

It's fast, non-invasive, and gives you a clear, documented picture of exactly what's going on behind your walls.
