Another RADesign project is ready for consent!

This time, we’ve designed a large new deck using PROLAM posts and bearers, creating a generous outdoor entertaining space that will completely transform the way this family enjoys their home.

We’ve also added a self-contained basement unit, complete with an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, bathroom, and an additional bedroom — providing a comfortable space for extended family members.

The new deck will make the most of those long, hot summer evenings, giving the family plenty of room to relax, entertain and enjoy time with friends and family.

One of our latest projects is under construction. A garage refurbishment where the client came to us after a bad builder left them high and dry with a half-finished, non-compliant disaster.

We took the lead and guided the client through the correct compliance pathway. The garage will essentially be reconstructed, complete with new access from the living space to the deck on top of the garage, allowing the owner to bask in the sun and, more importantly, sleep well at night knowing it is fully compliant and weathertight!

Here is a render of a recent project currently being consented. An existing dormer is to be refurbished with new timber cladding, uPVC windows and membrane roofing, all to replace the existing 35 year old claddings that had seen better days.

Another consent has been approved for this small dwelling addition in the hills of Lower Hutt. The existing cabin has a new two-bedroom addition (right-hand end) with a cantilevered roof to protect the wood for the new fireplace. It also has a mezzanine storage area in the roof space.

The house is located in a specific engineered wind zone, so special care has been taken with the fixings of the cladding and roofing and all the connections of the framing. It is well insulated and sits on an insulated slab.

We just got our first PIM application for buildings not needing a building consent granted. We did not do the design; that is all , who makes these fantastic container houses.

We handled the council application and everything associated with placing these homes on a site, such as the drainage design and siting the house to avoid the need for a resource consent.

The consent has just been granted for this one-story addition to a villa on the hills of Wellington. We look forward to this one progressing through the construction phase. It poses several challenges with access, with the new top-floor roof trusses requiring to be split in half for site handling before being stitched back together in-situ to avoid power lines down at road level, and engineered foundations to avoid council drains.
