Meet Ben. Ben is our site manager and the person who keeps things moving on the ground every day. Ben has been with us for the last two years and is the glue for our team.

He knows what good work looks like, keeps our standards high and he doesn't let things slide. Ben is also one of the few Passive House Certified Trades People in Wellington. Super lucky to have him as part of our team.

Something a bit different from us this week. We're currently on site at the Sir Mark Dunajtschik Mental Health Centre in Lower Hutt — working as a subcontractor to Hawkins on a structural timber framing package. It's a big building and we've had up to twelve of our team on the tools here for the past couple of months.

Projects like this one matter to us for a few reasons. The work itself is demanding — commercial framing at this scale is a different beast — and for a number of our team it's been their first real taste of it. They've taken to it.

But it's also been about building Huia's capacity. Taking on a package like this has let us grow our team quickly, bring on good people, and develop the kind of depth that means we can say yes to more — and deliver when we do.

About a month to go. The team are smashing it and Hawkins have been great to work alongside.

123 Melbourne Road, Island Bay. Foundations are in and we're moving. This one's a new residential build on a tight site — the kind of project that needs good planning from day one. We'll keep you posted as it goes up.

Kia ora. We're Huia Building Group — a Māori-led main contractor based in Te Whanganui-ā-Tara. We build homes, community facilities, and commercial spaces, and we've been quietly doing it for the Last 3 Years. Time to be a bit less quiet about it.
