Had a hot water panic this week? 🥶 You’re not alone – turns out, when the temps drop, hot water systems start to show their age - usually because they’re under the pump while people try to warm up (and she’s been a bloody chilly week!)

Rusty tanks, faulty valves, or just not enough oomph for a growing household – we’re sorting a bunch of these across Wellington at the moment.

Need yours checked? It might not need a full replacement – sometimes it’s just a tweak or a part swap. Give us a buzz and we’ll suss ya.

This week’s honourable mention goes to: the humble trap under your kitchen sink 🙌

It’s doing a lot. And when it gets clogged, you’ll know about it real fast. Here are a few things you should never chuck down there:

☕️ coffee grounds
🧈 oil / fat
🥚 egg shells
🍌 food scraps

Sometimes it’s not just about getting the job done — it’s about doing it right and making it look bloody good 👌🏽

We got called out for a fairly standard hose tap install, but the placement options weren’t ideal and it was going to stick out like a sore thumb next to this beautiful home. Instead of slapping it on and walking away, we had a yarn with the homeowner and came up with a bespoke solution: building a wee custom fence to mount the tap on, stained to match the house 🏠

Functional ✅
Durable ✅
Easy on the eye ✅

We reckon small details like this make all the difference 🤙🏽 swipe for the before!

Why the name ‘On Hand’? 👋

Well - it’s inspired by an injury sustained a few years ago when I badly injured my wrist (severing seven tendons and losing the use of my hand for a while). I’ve now had three pretty major surgeries to date, and thankfully I’ve been able to strengthen my wrist back to its former glory. The name started as a joke – “One Hand Plumbing” – but we decided to drop the ‘e’ and go with ‘On Hand Plumbing & Gas’.

Gotta laugh about it, right? 😂

But it fits - because I’m also your on-hand Wellington plumber. On hand, whenever you need - whether it’s a reno you’ve been planning for a while, or you need an emergency plumber on-hand when things don’t go to plan. I’ve got ya sussed ✌🏽

Kia ora! For those of you who don’t know me - my name’s Ben, and I’m the founder of On Hand Plumbing & Gas. I’m a certified plumber and gasfitter with years of experience working across the Wellington Region.

We’re a small family-owned and operated business, based in the heart of Welly (shout out to my partner Dee who’ll be bugging me to post on socials and helping me behind the scenes, and to our chaotic toddler who keeps me on my toes 😂).

This whole launching a business thing has been intense and awesome and stressful - but it’s been the most amazing thing to have all your support. So cheers for following along with our journey (and if you need a plumber, you know who to call) 🤙🏽
