Last week our team got to do something very different!

Working alongside Commercial Joinery, rebuilding this embassy's skylight, in a secret location (well, not really a secret, just a foreign embassy in Wellington!)

It wasnt for the faint hearted - a real challenge of the minds..AND a challenge to beat the weather.....

A great learning moment for our almost qualified Carpenter, Zayden

This is the type of challenge we thrive on....

Renovations can be daunting...

A sea of timber, nails, screws, bolts, bracing, and much much more.... Of course, the most important part being that you choose the right Builder - someone with an abundance of knowledge and experience and let's not forget, the qualifications.

Want to look at doing a renovation in 2027, but dont know where to start???

1. Talk to a qualified Builder, one with experience and knowledge ✔️
2. If it's a consented project, ensure the Builder is LBP'ed. ✔️
3. Suggest you seek out a reputable Builder, backed by an association such as Certified Builders ✔️

NOTE:
This project is a substantial work in progress, with extensive photos to come at a later stage. Here's a little snippet!!!

Looks like raspberry, but it's called "Frame Saver".

What's it used for??

It's a liquid preservative to "treat" untreated timber.

Do NOT consume this or allow this to make contact with your eyes. It's a chemical, afterall. Use with caution.

Some houses in the late 90s and early 2000s were built using untreated framing. This means there was no protection from any water ingress (aka leaking).

Treating the existing framing with Frame Saver is a measure to assist in saving framing from potential future rot. This is why the framing used in homes today is pink (it has been treated by the manufacturer!).

If you're unsure whether your project requires a Building Consent, make sure you get that checked before spending your hard earned money.

Are you replacing an acrylic lined shower with tiles? A consent IS required.

Are you replacing "like for like"?
You can do so under schedule 1 of 3604.

Are you installing a window where there was not one previously? A consent IS required.

Are you replacing a ranch slider with a window the same size or smaller? An LBP is required, but no consent is required.

Please ensure you obtain the correct information before starting your project.

The risks are too great.
