🦇In the forests of Te Hoiere Marlborough, pekapeka-tou-roa / long-tailed bat mothers raise just a single pup each year.

Thanks to funding from the Top of the South Community Foundation, four AT220s have been installed directly around known maternity roosts to protect these precious bat mums and pups.

"The AT220 traps have been working exceptionally well for us, maintaining rat tracking indices below 5%. Without this technology, it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for us to achieve the same level of results." Lucie Daniskova, Forest and Bird Predator Control Officer.

And for the volunteers on the ground, the difference is clear:

"We've noticed a real shift since the AT220s went in, with the resetting traps being much more efficient than single set traps. They're working away all the time, even when we're not there, and it feels like we're finally putting consistent pressure on the problem areas."
— Budyong Hill, long-time volunteer in the Bat Recovery Program

This is exactly the mahi we invented our traps for, protecting precious species with innovative, self-resetting technology.

Since installing our self-resetting AT220 traps, Thames Coast Kiwi Care have caught over 1,000 possums and nearly 1,000 rats, with the first 27 AT220's installed catching 103 possums and 60 rats in a single month!🙀

Now the forest is regenerating without rats eating the seeds or possums eating the trees. Along with kiwi, the area is home to Hochstetter’s and Archey’s frogs and also nationally critical Pekapeka / long-tailed bats. 🦇

We know this work is necessary - that's why we build effective traps that are baited, set, and ready 24/7 365 days a year (depending on whether you have daytime deactivation on or off...)

Kiwi-made traps = tough as nails ⚒️

A close shave for one of our AT520ai traps and its solar panel. The tree it was mounted on was felled by a recent windstorm. Fortunately both trap and solar panel were unscathed and were removed to a safer nearby location.
The fallen tree was also supporting one of the first green mistletoe (Ileostylus micranthus) plants we had identified in the area. While it was disappointing to lose this particular plant, there is some encouraging news: we are now seeing other green mistletoe plants throughout the area.
This may be one of the positive outcomes of reduced possum browsing pressure, giving these special native plants a better chance to survive and thrive.

AT220s are helping protect the Turitea Water Catchment area that supplies two-thirds of Palmerston North's drinking water! 🚰

Our automatic traps provide a non-toxic way of keeping predators under control in a sensitive area where protecting water quality and native wildlife are both crucial.

We were stoked to join Dan Ritchie and Alyssa Noily last week to service their AT220s. With the rugged and remote terrain, the 6-month service interval on our AT220's makes our traps a great fit for the area. 👌

The return of locally extinct toutouwai / North Island Robin to the reserve in 2021 shows the hard work of the team is paying off, and we're proud our traps are playing a part. 🌿💧🙀

Thanks to Daniel Ritchie Contracting for having us and showing us their mahi.
