Kārearea is a unique and adaptive falcon of both the forest and tussocklands. She is a keystone species, an indicator to the conditions for health.
🪶 Like us, Kārearea flys at the top of the foodweb, and is sustained by those around her. As a predator she plays a role in maintaining balance in the ecosystem.
🪶 Her totemic presence is vitally important to our ecological, cultural and social health.
🪶 Habitat destruction and intensive land use practice has severely limited suitable breeding territory.
🪶 We cannot protect Kārearea without restoring & protecting whole ecosystems.
