Endangered Andean bears have left clawmarks like these on trees throughout the area of our investigations. Wildlife Biologist Bryce Winsor will join our expedition to share in the exploration work, while also logging the rare and endangered fauna of this area.

Vilcabamba is pretty wild in places. The “bridge” in this photo was swept away by floods last year, and this year we will have to either ford the stream or build a new one.

Cerro Victoria (the mountain in the foreground) was the Inca spiritual axis of the entire southern Vilcabamba region. They built a huge platform for ceremonies and celestial observation on its summit, and it was the most prominent feature for miles around. It lies at the heart of our area of investigations.
