𝙏𝘼𝙇𝘼𝙑𝙀𝙍𝘼, 𝙉𝙐𝙀𝙑𝘼 𝙀𝘾𝙄𝙅𝘼 — BestLife Insurance and Surety Agency, Inc., the youngest subsidiary of Alalay sa Kaunlaran, Inc. (ASKI) Companies, marked its first founding anniversary on October 1, 2026, with a celebration held at the A.G. Combe Building in Barangay Andal Alino, Talavera, Nueva Ecija.

The anniversary activities began with a motorcade, followed by a formal program attended by company officials, insurance industry partners, government representatives, and members of the ASKI network.

BestLife was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on October 1, 2025. The agency was established to provide accessible and affordable insurance products, particularly to low-income families and underserved communities.

During the program, BestLife Operations Manager James Lyndon B. Lacap thanked ASKI management, partner agencies, and field staff for their support during the agency’s first year of operations.

“Despite all the challenges, God has guided us,” Lacap said, describing the first year as the beginning of a longer journey for the agency.

He added that BestLife aims to expand its client base and services in the coming years.

BestLife President and ASKI Vice President for Shared Services Divina Gracia C. Santos, in her message, described the agency’s first year as a period of learning, adjustment, and overcoming operational challenges.

Santos emphasized the role of insurance in helping individuals and families manage financial risks and protect their assets. She also encouraged the agency to continue developing products responsive to the needs of Filipino families.

“Insurance touches the lives of clients,” Santos said, underscoring the importance of keeping BestLife’s services relevant to the communities it serves.

Santos also acknowledged the agency’s long-standing insurance partners, including Standard Insurance, Sun Life, Pioneer, Oona, and Beneficial Life Insurance Co., Inc. (BenLife), which have supported ASKI’s microinsurance initiatives since 2002.

Among those who attended the anniversary celebration were BenLife Vice President and Metro Manila Sales Division Head Danilo L. Mercado, Standard Insurance Branch Head Ana Lisa V. Muniz, Pioneer Insurance Branch Head Dexter Pangilinan, and Sun Life Philippines Financial Advisor Carlito Dela Cruz.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development–Social Welfare and Development Agency (DSWD SWAD) Nueva Ecija was represented by Provincial Link Maritess Javate and Institutional Partnership Development Officer Christian G. Cebricus.

ASKI Microfinance Executive Director Jane Manucdoc also reaffirmed the institution’s support for BestLife and its efforts to expand insurance coverage among clients and communities.

The celebration ended with a cake-cutting ceremony and toast marking BestLife’s first year of operations and its plans to expand its services in the years ahead.

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA — ASKI received international recognition after winning two awards at the prestigious Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) Sustainable Development Awards 2026, held on September 24, 2026, in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Ms. Jinky Espiritu from ASKI Microfinance and Ms. Catalina Santos from ASKI Mutual Benefit Association (ASKI MBA) represented the organization at the global gathering.

Alalay Sa Kaunlaran Microfinance Social Development Inc., in partnership with iSynergies, Inc., took home the Winner Award in the Technology Development category for the project "Development and Deployment of the ACREDIT Digital Microfinance Application."

Supported by the Asian Development Bank’s Fintech for Inclusion Transformation (ADB-FIT) Program, ACREDIT is a mobile client platform built to streamline microfinance services across the areas of operation of ASKI. Designed to serve rural microentrepreneurs, farmers, vendors, and informal workers- primarily women, the app allows clients to apply for loans, submit requirements, and track account activity directly from their smartphones.

During its initial rollout in Cabanatuan City and Carranglan, Nueva Ecija, ACREDIT onboarded 721 clients, facilitated over ₱9 million in loan disbursements, cut turnaround processing times by up to 50%, and reduced branch administrative workloads by 30%.

In the Financial Inclusion category, ASKI earned a Merit Award for "Strengthening Financial Inclusion through Inclusive Microinsurance," spearheaded by ASKI MBA in coordination with ASKI Microfinance.

The program was recognized for bridging the protection gap among vulnerable households across Regions I, II, and III. By embedding life, accident, and loan insurance directly into microfinance operations, ASKI MBA protects low-income families from sudden financial shocks.

As of December 31, 2025, ASKI MBA covers 258,577 active members representing more than 1.03 million insured lives. In 2025 alone, the association disbursed ₱26.35 million across 428 insurance claims, backed by a rapid 1-3-5-days claims settlement process that prevents families from falling into distress borrowing or poverty.

The double recognition highlights ASKI’s dual-track approach to empowering underserved communities by leveraging financial technology to streamline access to capital and providing safety nets through inclusive microinsurance.

The annual ADFIAP Awards celebrate member development finance institutions across Asia and the Pacific that execute outstanding initiatives contributing to sustainable socio-economic development.

The retooling series launched in Cabanatuan City at Luzviminda's Event Center, hosting 66 participants on September 11, 2026, and concluding with 70 on September 21. Additional regional sessions followed in Region 2: the September 18 training at 3K by Zen in Santiago City drew 46 attendees, while the September 19 session at Las Palmas de San Jose in Tuguegarao City brought together 56 account officers.

Setting the course for the Account Officer (AO) Retooling Activity titled "From Present to Future: Understanding Process Change," ASKI Microfinance AOs and Legal & Recovery Department representatives gathered across various regions to align on operational shifts.

Building on the event's momentum, Ms. Jane Munucdoc, Executive Director of ASKI MFI, explained the primary objective of the training and highlighted the pivotal purpose of AOs in the organization's overall success while adapting to process changes through the 4R Framework. This underlies the clarification and strengthening of AOs' role by redesigning how AOs work, defining clear ownership and accountability, and building the skills and confidence needed to deliver their responsibilities effectively while preparing the AO function of digitalization.

Ms. Divina Gracia C. Santos, ASKI Vice President for Shared Services, further connected with the AOs through a meaningful discussion on “Your Bigger Identity,” emphasizing that every MAO is a reflection of the organization. She encouraged AOs to see beyond their individual roles and recognize their place within the ASKI Group—one organization composed of nine strategic companies, each with different roles but united by one shared purpose. The discussion also highlighted the importance of how AOs represent ASKI through their behavior, communication, accountability, service, and digital presence, reminding them that every action they take is part of the ASKI experience.

The core session continued with substantive remarks from Ms. Jinky Espiritu, MFI Project Manager, who detailed the MFI credit administration cycle. Ms. Jinky Espiritu walked participants through the entire workflow: assessing the eligibility of client applications, credit and background investigations, loan processing and approval, loan disbursement, loan collection and monitory, and loan renewal.

Stepping in on behalf of Ms. Jinky Espiritu on the fourth and final day of training, Michael Austria, Area Manager for Tarlac, and Dexter Ong, Area Manager for Pangasinan and La Union, led the session to keep the learning continuous and connected.

Mr. Michael Austria tackled the loan processing and approval—from recommendation to client confirmation. Mr. Austria's discussion gives emphasis to ensuring complete documentation and proper approval before disbursement.

Mr. Dexter Ong further discussed the loan collection and proactive monitoring, which leads to a healthier portfolio and stronger client relationships. The bottom line of Mr. Ong's discourse features a successful collection that relies on a structured balance of strategic planning, clear client communication, risk mitigation, and disciplined post-visit tracking.

These training days concluded with interactive leadership conversation hosted by Ms. Nikki Zara, Training Manager, with the title, "A Coffee Talk With the Executives," featuring Ms. Emeteria F. Quijano, Chief Executive Officer of ASKI Mutual Benefit Association Inc. and Ms. Divina Gracia C. Santos, President of Bestlife Insurance and Surety Agency, who shared insights regarding the insurance companies of ASKI. This part of the training session is not merely about leadership; perhaps, it highlights the people, protection, and purpose, and how micro-insurance offers help to the lives of ASKI clients.

At the end of the day, this training aims to benefit AOs to foster their level of competencies, adequately consistent in serving clients with compliance and integrity, ensuring possessing a clear vision empowered with impactful action—for the clients, for the ASKI, and for the community.

Exploring Opportunities for More Resilient Households

On September 8–9, 2026, ASKI welcomed People’s Courage International (PCI) representatives Mr. Siddharth Mani Iyer and Ms. Catherine Gordo, Country Head – Philippines, to ASKI Head Office.

During their visit, the representatives, together with ASKI Foundation and ASKI Microfinance, conducted a field visit with ASKI Microfinance clients in Aurora to discuss the Resilient Housing Project and Solar Financing. The discussions focused on understanding clients’ household needs and priorities, particularly their experiences and concerns related to housing and access to sustainable energy.

The engagement provided the teams with firsthand perspectives from clients and a deeper understanding of the conditions within their communities. These insights offered important considerations in exploring how resilient housing and solar financing initiatives may respond to the needs and priorities of ASKI Microfinance clients.

The field visit also forms part of the partnership with People’s Courage International through Project RISE-700, which supports efforts to strengthen the financial resilience of microfinance clients. Building on this partnership, the discussions on resilient housing and solar financing explored additional solutions that may address the broader needs of client households.

As communities continue to face changing needs and challenges, listening to their experiences can help shape more responsive and sustainable forms of support. Continued collaboration and community engagement can help create opportunities for households to become more secure, prepared, and resilient.

𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡, 𝗘𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧, 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗧!

We are proud and grateful to have participated in the 3rd Gender Advocates Conference, held on September 10–11, 2026, a meaningful gathering that brought together advocates, leaders, and champions committed to advancing Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI).

This year’s celebration became even more special as we were honored with the "BEST in GEDSI Community of Practice (COP) Development Award"!

One of the highlights of the conference was the CEO Roundtable: “Leadership for Equality — Integrating Gender-Equal Workplace Policies, Challenges, and Opportunities,” which provided an important platform for leaders to share insights, experiences, and commitments toward building more inclusive and gender-responsive workplaces.

We are especially proud of the participation of Ms. Jane Manucdoc, ASKI Microfinance Executive Director, who joined the CEO Roundtable and contributed to this important conversation on advancing equality and inclusion in the workplace.

This recognition is more than just an award—it is a testament to our collective commitment to creating a workplace and community where everyone is valued, heard, respected, and given equal opportunities to thrive.

We celebrate this achievement with heartfelt gratitude to everyone who continues to champion GEDSI in our organization and communities. Together, we continue to learn, collaborate, inspire, and turn inclusion into meaningful action.

A special thank you to APPEND Inc. and Good Return for continuously creating spaces that empower organizations and advocates to learn, connect, collaborate, and strengthen GEDSI practices.

One community. One commitment. One purpose—leaving no one behind.
