Ayon sa Journal of the American College of Cardiology, ang pagkain ng limang lingguhang servings ng walnuts, mga mani at iba pang uri ng tree nuts ay may kaugnayan sa 14% na pagbaba ng peligro sa sakit sa puso, at 20% na pagbaba ng mga nakamamatay na komplikasyon dulot ng pagtigas ng arteries.

Ang walnuts umano lumilitaw na pinakamainam sa mga pagpipiliang mani, ayon sa mga pagsusuri, base na rin sa mahigit 210,000 katao na sumagot ng mga regular survey na bahagi ng 32 taong pag-aaral.

"After looking at individual nut consumption, eating walnuts one or more times per week was associated with a 19 percent lower risk of cardiovascular disease and 21 percent lower risk of coronary heart disease," sabi sa report.

Ang mga taong kumakain ng mga mani dalawa o higit pang beses kada linggo ay may 13% na mas mababang peligro ng sakit sa puso kaysa mga taong hindi kumakain.

Ang mga kumain ng tree nuts, tulad ng almonds, cashews, chestnuts at pistachios, ay may 15% mas mababang peligro ng pagkakasakit sa puso.

"Our findings support recommendations of increasing the intake of a variety of nuts, as part of healthy dietary patterns, to reduce the risk of chronic disease in the general populations," sabi ng lead author na si Marta Guasch-Ferre, research fellow sa Department of Nutrition sa Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Marami nang nakaraang pag-aaral na sumuri sa nagagawa ng pagkain ng mani sa kalusugan ng tao.

Ayon sa mga researcher, naiiba ang bagong pag-aaral dahil sa lawak nito at kung paano nito tiningnan ang koneksyon sa pagitan ng mga partikular na uri ng mga mani at mga kilalang sakit sa puso.

Ngunit dahil sa ito'y isang observational study base sa mga self-reported questionnaire responses, hindi nito napatunayan ang cause-and-effect.

"Ideally, further investigations should test the effects of long-term consumption of nuts supplemented into the usual diet on hard cardiometabolic events," ayon sa accompanying editorial ni Emilio Ros, isang doktor sa Hospital Clinic sa Barcelona.

"In the meantime, raw nuts, if possible unpeeled and otherwise unprocessed, may be considered as natural health capsules that can be easily incorporated into any heart-protective diet to further cardiovascular well-being and promote healthy aging,"
