This particular plant has gotten me really excited. This is a sporeling of a willinckii ‘Yellow Moon’ with interesting characteristics.

The first thing I noticed about this one is that it’s been growing compact. Not dwarf levels but noticeably smaller than a regular sized willinckii. I’ve been growing this one for almost a year now and it hasn’t been growing long fronds.

Another thing I noticed are the tips of the recent fronds. They’ve consistently been curling! I don’t think curled fronds are a trait of the ‘Yellow Moon’ so this one is exciting.

Hopefully these traits remain as the plant matures even more.

Because this Foong Si Qu has been growing so well, I’ve decided to upgrade its mount to a cork board. It used to be on a plastic mount and I wasn’t happy with the way it looked.

It hasn’t grown any fertile fronds since the end of last year but the shield fronds have just gotten huge!

I didn’t realize that this was the first post on my willinckii ‘Totoro’ sporeling. It’s currently the smallest Platycerium that I’m currently growing. I do have smaller pups and sporelings of other Platycerium, but considering its age, this one is actually the smallest.

It’s healthy but very compact, likely due to the light it receives—about 31,000 lux (~3,000 fc) for 14 hours daily. I recently saw a comparison of identical plants grown under different light levels, and it matched what I’m seeing: higher light produced shorter fronds, while lower light produced longer ones. This is photomorphogenesis in action. It’s how the plant changes its shape, size, and growth depending on the light available.

This veitchii ‘Lemoinei’ compact is finally starting to look good. I’ve been growing this one for about a year now and it started pretty slow. It wasn’t super rooted at the start when I first got it so it took a while before the plant did anything.

Once it did start to grow, it was growing these really long fertile fronds. It wasn’t growing very
“compact”. I saw a photo of the mother plant and the fronds on that were really short. I thought something might have gone wrong with the labelling of the plant so I just decided to let it be. Surprisingly, towards the end of last year, it started growing shorter fronds! Each frond that grew got shorter and shorter and were now also growing upright. Recently I cut off the long drooping old fronds and I think it’s looking much better now. It’s also started to grow its first set of shield fronds since I got it.

Hopefully this will continue to grow compact

This Platycerium ‘Antis’ has gotten big! I didn’t expect it to get this big this fast! Out of all my Platycerium I think this one looks the most alien. It hasn’t gotten to its full size yet and I don’t know where I’ll be placing it when it does get to that size.

This is a cross between andinum and elephantotis.

Considering how this plant looked like last year, this plant has grown a lot! I actually got this plant in October of 2024 and it was the tiniest pup ever (my ridleyi sporelings are bigger than when I got this plant).

It hasn’t gotten the signature curls on the frond tips yet so hopefully it will soon. A funny thing about this plant is that you are not supposed to fertilize it. Mr Foong himself said that the key to getting it to curl is to hold off on fertilizer.

This is my veitchii ‘wild’ x veitchii ‘Lisa’. It’s an interesting mix. It’s has been growing very consistently in my indoor set up. I still don’t know exactly what this will look like fully mature but since it’s a veitchii cultivar cross, I suspect it won’t look extremely different in form.

It is however displaying some ‘Lisa’ on its fertile fronds but time will tell what this will eventually look like.

My Platycerium willinckii ‘Golden Boy’ has been growing so much better now that I’ve transferred it into my bedroom. The average temperature in my bedroom is about 18°C and it really helps dwarf Platycerium grow better. This ‘Golden Boy’ was also just recently mounted after sitting in a tiny pot for a few months.

Fun fact about the ‘Golden Boy’, it also originated from the same grower that the ‘Jade Girl’ came from.
