Protect the Pasig River! No to PAREX!

This April we celebrate Earth Month, a time when we put the spotlight on our one and only collective home - Planet Earth. Everywhere around us we are witness to the destruction of nature in different forms, most especially in urban locations like Manila.

One of the most alarming developments in Manila is the planned Pasig River Expressway or PAREX. Together with SALEX and NALEX, and the Skyway connector, these expressways are gray concrete monsters that are slowly strangling the city of Manila, placing entire neighbors under darkness, creating massive heatsinks across neighborhoods, and making Manila an ugly and dystopian city.

PAREX is poised to destroy the Pasig River, damaging the environment, bringing emissions along its paths, and endangering our cultural and heritage treasures along its paths.

So this Earth Day, we continue our call since 2021: Protect the Pasig River! No to PAREX!
