"Tri R Building: A Modern Architectural Landmark Rising in the City"
The project entails the design and development of a 236-square-meter lot in Pasig City, with a dual-purpose structure combining both commercial and residential spaces. The client’s vision is to create a modern headquarters for their primary operations, while also incorporating rentable spaces to generate additional income. The architectural challenge lies in harmonizing these diverse functions within a cohesive design that captures the client's preferred Industrial aesthetic, blending urban, raw materials with innovative construction techniques and sustainability features.
The architectural design is guided by an Industrial Design philosophy, a style that emphasizes functionality and the beauty of raw, exposed materials. The building’s structure will prominently feature concrete, steel I-beams, and steel decking, which form the core of the building's identity. These materials are not just structural components but also key visual elements that define the industrial look, giving the building a robust, utilitarian feel, reflective of the cityscape around it.
In addition to traditional materials, the design embraces innovative construction technologies, such as the use of Steel Reinforced Concrete (SRC) for the walls. SRC offers significant advantages, combining the compressive strength of concrete with the tensile strength of steel, resulting in a more resilient and durable building envelope. This material provides superior resistance to environmental stresses such as earthquakes and extreme weather, enhancing the building's longevity. SRC also plays a role in improving fire resistance and structural stability, which is especially important in a mixed-use building. The integration of modern construction materials like SRC is part of the design's forward-thinking approach, ensuring the building is not only visually striking but also built to meet the highest safety and performance standards.
A critical aspect of the project is the preservation of existing trees on the site. The client’s desire to co-exist with nature, despite the dense urban environment of Pasig, is a key driver of the design. The trees on the lot will be incorporated into the overall layout, not only for aesthetic reasons but also to serve a functional purpose.
The overall structure is designed with a sense of dynamism, achieved through the rotation of building blocks to create visually interesting angles and spaces. This design approach breaks away from the conventional grid-based layout, introducing a more fluid and organic form that enhances both the building’s aesthetic appeal and functionality. The rotation of blocks creates opportunities for shaded outdoor areas, terraces, and natural ventilation, all of which contribute to the comfort and livability of the space.
To balance the Industrial design with warmth and texture, the building features Wood Composite Panels and adjustable Wood Composite Louvers. These materials bring an organic touch to the otherwise stark industrial palette, providing a contrast that softens the overall appearance of the structure.
