This main door follows the motif of the rest of the house (where we used a lot of formal square patterns of varying thicknesses). There's a glass insert detail that enables users to look outside without compromising interior privacy. The lockset is very modern, with multiple modes of access (fingerprint, keycard, gestures, and key).

The other wood panel is meant to screen the interior for when the main door gets opened to the genkan, as the house will not have a fenced front gate. The perforated square pattern gives enough image diffusion for the few seconds that the door is open.

House on Madrigal - We're close to the finish line. This house was designed at the very onset of the pandemic (Q1 2020) and was put on hold. It wasn't until Q1 2023 that construction was started.

The roof was initially designed to have concealed gutters aligned along the exterior wall. After the house was restarted, we kept the original idea, but experience (and a bit of pessimism) led us to introduce our very own miniature "gargoyles" that act as overflow openings should the downspouts fail and the concealed gutters get filled with rainwater.

When the project allows it, we prefer to incorporate the warmth of natural wood on typically cold bathrooms, particularly in areas where the end-user will be bare-footed. It can provide a much more pleasant toilet experience. However, careful detailing is necessary to keep maintenance & upkeep practical.

Saying goodbye to a project is bittersweet. This house took a year to design, and almost 3 years to finish to spec. The team of were able to deliver a beautiful outcome; through small and large challenges, through personnel and design changes that enabled the project to continue, and through the tall task of managing a project of this scale, the team was able to pull through to the end.
