Pandemic restrictions are easing up for travel but it wouldn’t be that bad to have your own beach house you can always go to.
In this project, the vacation experience of indoor-outdoor living is enhanced with a wrap around octagonal lanai fused with an octagonal main house.
The best way to maximize views, tropical sun and sea breeze.

Structures built using locally sourced materials,
such as Bamboo & Anahaw, and constructed with local techniques (a.k.a. VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE)
help preserve our Natural & Cultural Heritage.

It makes endemic species thrive
and helps lessen harmful production waste emitted to the environment.
It also reaffirms our cultural identity
because these materials & building forms are unique and contextual.
Not to mention it's much cooler to stay in specially in the hot & humid Filipino climate!

Our heritage traditions can exist harmoniously with the contemporary - even in new construction projects.

Case in point:

Barista's Kitchen, Brazil where "it was decided to align tradition with contemporaneity to reinforce the idea that both are not exclusive concepts, but that they can be side by side, illustrated by the wood stove next to the induction cooktop".

It is all about finding the right balance

and understanding who you are designing for.

Completed in 2020 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Images by Jomar Bragança, Bárbara Dutra. In 2020, many uncertainties and reflections arose along with the process of social isolation resulting from the pandemic. We changed our habits, and...

After the long hiatus in social media, the Hiraya architects are back with more interesting and informative content so you can get a glimpse of our design process.
Today, we try to answer a curious question: "How can I make my bathroom more comfy and 'maaliwalas'?"
A useful tip is using natural light to your advantage.
Example: smart use of glass blocks!

Project: Beach House, N. Samar, 2020

Love coffee shops? Here's the house for you.
Fulfilling the owner's desire to bring "starbucks" to their home, a modern semi industrial look was used.

A combination of cement finishes, a glass curtain wall, & touches of wood and metal accents all evoke the coffee shop vibes we all enjoy.

The narrow rectangular lot was maximized by utilizing minimum setbacks for more outdoor seating and garden nooks surrounding the house.

There is no feeling of confinement for this seemingly cafe-from-home set up since generous front and rear sliding glass doors allow for easy air flow and convenient views of the refreshing gardens.
PROJECT TYPE Two-Storey Residence with Basement
LOCATION Catarman, N. Samar
AREA COVERAGE 553 sqm
PROJECT PHASE Design
PROJECT SCOPE* Architectural + Architectural Interior + Landscape Design

*Ar. Ross Canceso and Landscape Designer Shanaia Cabrera collaborated with us until Design Development Phase in this design project.
