BASE Bahay Foundation is co-organizing the Bamboo Housing Challenge, an international design competition inviting architects, engineers, designers and students to develop a $10,000 bamboo home prototype. The initiative is presented with Bamboo U in Bali and supported by the Hilti Foundation. The winning design will be built at full scale in Bali.

The competition seeks climate-responsive, cost-effective and durable housing solutions that highlight bamboo’s environmental and design potential. “At BASE, we firmly believe bamboo holds immense potential to revolutionize sustainable and affordable construction globally,” said Engr. Luis Felipe Lopez, general manager of BASE. “This challenge is a direct embodiment of our mission to push the boundaries of bamboo construction... taking innovative concepts from paper to reality in Bali.”

The winner will receive airfare and accommodations for one representative and free participation in Bamboo U’s 11-day Bamboo Build & Design Course from Oct. 23 to Nov. 3, 2026. Registration closes March 15, submissions are due April 17, and the winner will be announced May 15.
