The Briones House, a remarkable artifact of contemporary post-World War II Boholano architecture, is nestled among the old structure of E. Butalid Street in Tagbilaran City. Built in the 1950s and 1960s, a period of great change after the Japanese occupation, the house marks the island’s shift to early Tropical Modernism. The current restoration honors the home’s traditional mid-19th century design, carefully preserving its unique hybrid wood-and-concrete structure, wide elevated eaves and brilliant passive cooling elements that have allowed it to breathe naturally with the coastal breeze for decades.
