On September 12, 2025, Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, signed a MoU with the HWA FOUNDATION (HWA) under a European Union funded research initiative led by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to combat malnutrition. The agreement was signed by Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor of SALU, and Mr. Ghulam Nabi Soomro, CEO of the HWA FOUNDATION (HWA). Dr. Khushk emphasized the role of collaboration between SALU, IRC, and HWA in addressing poverty, malnutrition, and related social issues through research on crops and nutrition.
Mr. Soomro thanked the Vice Chancellor and IRC for facilitating the MoU and highlighted the project’s focus on women and children facing nutrition deficits. Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, principal investigator, assured timely completion. Distinguished attendees included IRC representatives Mr. Fateh Jadoon and Ms. Shabana, Mr. Khadim Hussain Mirani of Bhittai Social Watch & Advocacy (BSWA), and senior SALU faculty members including Other participants included Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari focal person for the project, Prof. Dr. Wahid Bux Jatoi (Pro-Vice Chancellor), Prof. Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh (Dean of Physical Sciences), Director Finance Qazi Nizam Uddin, and senior faculty members. This collaboration represents a key milestone in uniting academia, civil society, and international partners to improve community welfare through research-driven solutions.

HWA Foundation organized a Breastfeeding Awareness Event at Royal Marriage Hall, featuring a panel discussion and expert speeches on the benefits of breast milk, early initiation, complementary feeding, and addressing misconceptions that hinder nursing. The session highlighted the importance of maternal and child health in relation to breastfeeding. Community members and stakeholders, including PPHI, SRSO, Social Welfare Department, Population Department, education Department and Sindh Social Protection Authority, actively participated. The event fostered collective commitment to promote breastfeeding practices for healthier mothers and children.
