PCC (Plain Cement Concrete) for Warehouse

Typical Specification for PCC Work
1. Grade of Concrete
Mix Ratio: 1:2:4 (Cement : Sand : Aggregate)
For higher load areas: 1:2:4 may be used
Cement: OPC 43/53 Grade
Aggregate: 20 mm down graded coarse aggregate

2. Thickness
Standard thickness: 100 mm to 150 mm
Depends on the warehouse load and soil condition

3. Surface Preparation
Clear site of debris and organic material
Compact soil sub-base to at least 95% Proctor density
Lay anti-termite treatment if required
Add a thin layer of sand (20-25 mm) to level

4. Formwork
Use sturdy shuttering to retain concrete till it sets
Ensure proper alignment and level

5. Water Cement Ratio
Maintain between 0.4 to 0.5
Ensure workable consistency for easy placement

6. Laying & Compaction
Pour concrete uniformly and level it
Compact using mechanical vi****or
Ensure no voids or honeycombing

7. Curing
Keep surface wet for at least 7–10 days
Use wet hessian cloth or water spray method

8. Additional Notes
Provide proper slopes if required for drainage
Lay polythene sheet (optional) under PCC to avoid water loss

Sandwich panels are prefabricated building materials consisting of three layers:
Outer skins (facings): Typically made from metal sheets like galvanized steel, pre-painted steel, or aluminum.

Core insulation layer: This is the crucial part for cold storage and is usually made of:
Polyurethane (PU)
Polyisocyanurate (PIR)
Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) (less common for cold storage)
Mineral wool (not ideal for freezing temps, better for fire resistance)

❄️ Why Use Them for Cold Storage?
High thermal insulation – essential to maintain low temperatures
Air-tight sealing – prevents thermal bridging and moisture infiltration
Quick installation – panels are modular and easy to assemble
Durability & hygiene – surfaces are easy to clean and resist mold/bacteria

🔧 Key Features to Look For
Thickness: Commonly 50mm to 200mm. Cold storage usually uses 100mm to 150mm depending on temperature requirements.
Thermal conductivity (K-value): The lower, the better for insulation.
Joint system: Tongue-and-groove or cam-lock systems ensure air-tight joints.
Surface coating: Food-grade coatings like PVC film or polyester paint are ideal for hygiene.
