We’re proud to share that Fahad Zia is now a partner at Hyper—Practice in Pakistan. He joined us in 2020 as a junior architect and has since become an essential part of the studio. His commitment, his discipline, and the clarity he brings to both design and client work have strengthened the way we operate every day.

As we explore the next phase for Hyper—Practice and the possibility of expanding into a new region (more on that soon), it feels like the right moment for him to take on a larger role. We are so confident about his judgment and his ambition, and we know he will push the practice forward with intention.

Here is to steady growth, solid work, and the people who help shape what a studio can become.

We’re seeking someone who can take charge, from early design development to on-site ex*****on, with confidence, curiosity, and attention to detail.

This is not a junior position. You’ll be trusted to lead projects, manage clients, and see ideas through from concept to construction. The role comes with significant potential for growth within the company — ideal for someone who wants to evolve into a core team member or studio lead as we expand.

You’ll be part of a small, focused, and design-driven team where initiative and ownership are valued.

Our design for a 2 kanal residence that houses 3 separate families. This has been one of the most challenging briefs we have had to work with for a residence, but we are quite excited with how we were able to fulfill all the requirements. Construction is in progress and should be complete this summer.

Lahore in Motion provides a portrait of the Pakistani metropolis by tracing the path of the city’s first metro rail corridor. The volume collects stories from a series of walks along the metro’s 27-kilometre path, bringing together a wide variety of authors – including academics and activists, architects and artists – to reflect on the relationship between urban change and belonging in a historic city. Each chapter is organised around a particular station on the metro, but the volume moves far beyond the neighbourhoods shadowed by the train’s elevated track.

——

Hala’s essay for this volume focuses on GPO and surrounding areas, and traces her experience of understanding the city, particularly sites along Mall Road, during her time as a student of architecture in the mid-to-late 2000s. She talks about why it is so easy to frame the city through the lens of nostalgia, but how it can also be very limiting: “Nostalgia is a potent framework for imagining the city, but it can become dangerous when it becomes the only perspective, overriding the richness and complexity of everyday, lived experiences.”

Hala also contributed to the volume by designing the map that opens the book as well as the book cover.

Our contribution to ‘Mitti, Mazdoor, Mahaul’ for Lahore Biennale 03 this past October. This was part of an exhibit curated as part of an ongoing dialogue between and with the ground and its realities in and around Lahore. For LB03, they hosted a “gathering of soil from across Lahore as an unstable archive and catalyst for reflection and action.”

For this project, we collected soil from various villages on the outskirts of Lahore, each experiencing or anticipating significant physical transformations as agricultural land is replaced by low-rise, low-density gated housing schemes. These changes have profound implications, drastically affecting livelihoods and altering living patterns.

The collected soil, displayed on the accompanying map and drawing, serves as a subtle yet powerful indicator of these transformations. In some cases, even villages not yet encircled by infrastructure development reveal their story through the soil itself, which bears the marks of pollution from industrial waste. This waste is often illegally dumped in pits formed by soil excavation for the very housing developments reshaping the landscape.

This exercise aimed to highlight the sweeping transformations occurring at the city’s edges—transformations that are, quite literally, sometimes also reflected in the soil.
