Bareeze Cafe, situated within the Bareeze store on Main Boulevard. The design combines traditional elements with modern accents. The space features copper accents, paired with reclaimed doors and windows used as functional elements and decorative montages. Vintage carpets add warmth, while fabrics are repurposed as curtains and ceiling drapes, reflecting the brand’s textile heritage. .ayaz - photography by

Titled : The Courtyard Of Remanence - Our Installation at IAPEX 2025 - part of DATUM 2.5

Curatorial Note:

Neo-Terrains of Lahore: Color, Culture, and Indigenous Materialities. Lahore is a city of many terrains—layered with histories, textures, and colors that have shaped its identity across centuries. From the red sandstone of Mughal monuments and the vibrant pigments of miniature painting, to the earthen tactility of brick, mud, and stone, Lahore’s built and cultural environment is a living archive of material knowledge and sensory experience.

This exhibition, Neo-Terrains of Lahore, calls upon architects, artists, and designers to imagine installations that reframe the relationship between color, material, and space through the lens of Pakistan’s indigenous resources. The premise is rooted in the idea that the future of architecture and design emerges not from erasure but from a re-encounter with local traditions, ecological practices, and cultural memory.

The term neo-terrains here is both literal and metaphorical: it signals speculative landscapes that respond to the city’s contemporary urgencies—urban growth, sustainability, ecological imbalance—while also proposing new grounds for creativity,
community, and collaboration. .ayaz

The Courtyard Of Remanence

Explores one of Lahore’s most endearing spatial archetypes - the courtyard (Aangan), as a suspended terrain between the past and present. Once central to life, courtyards embodied social intimacy, and climatic responsiveness. From the Indus Valley’s dwellings to Mughal havelis, they formed the spatial and cultural heart of the region’s architecture. Today, these voids of air, light, and gathering have largely vanished amid urban densification, signaling a loss of indigenous environmental knowledge.

The installation comprises a solid free-standing wall that supports a floating terracotta screen(Jaali). The wall anchors the piece in Lahore’s material memory-dense, earthen, and grounded. The terracotta lattice references traditional passive cooling systems, transforming an ancient climatic device into a structure that hovers between enclosure and openness, the installation becomes both memory and proposition. .ayaz
