Innovation often starts with the right question and the courage to explore unexpected ideas.

Last Wednesday, May 20th, we had the opportunity to lead a Design Thinking workshop for the Startup School at UPTEC.
Bringing together master’s students from diverse backgrounds in biomedicine, the session became a space to challenge assumptions, reframe problems, and explore new opportunities through a human-centered innovation approach.

The results? A surprisingly diverse set of ideas, from bioplastics solutions to concepts tackling the everyday challenge of pet hair on clothing.

What stood out most was not only the variety of ideas, but the power of cross-disciplinary thinking. When different perspectives meet, innovation tends to emerge in unexpected ways.
A big thank you to everyone involved for the energy, curiosity, and willingness to think beyond the obvious.

We believe innovation is rarely linear.
It grows through exploration, dialogue, and the ability to connect different worlds.

Behind every high-performance component, there's a process shaped by hundreds of decisions.

For the CFMOTO 450MT swingarm protection project, developed with Polisport, the challenge was to translate performance requirements, riding conditions and user experience into a single, precisely engineered component, fitting seamlessly into the rider's interaction with the bike.

From early sketches and surface exploration to CAD development, engineering refinement and production constraints, every stage was focused on creating something capable of resisting real riding conditions. From impacts, to abrasion, dust and continuous use.

Design and engineering evolved together throughout the process, balancing durability, integration, manufacturability and the details that shape how a product is actually experienced.

Because products built for demanding environments are not designed in a single step. They are shaped through iteration, testing and precision.

We don't think it should.
Through Happycity, we challenged Fine Arts students to design Porto for Adult Playful permanent urban interventions that bring joy, surprise, and a reason to explore the city differently.

Imagine a slide from Virtudes to Alfândega. A suspended walkway connecting the city. Spaces that make you stop, play, and smile.

A designer working at the intersection of health, behavior and digital experiences.

He looks beyond the obvious and questions what people have learned to accept.

Emanuel works where design, strategy and human behavior meet. He pays attention to how people think and interact, where they hesitate, what confuses them, and what makes them give up.

In the context of the Happycity, Everythink is challenging, yearly, Fine-Arts' students to work under eight themes for the city of Porto. One of those themes is Dressing Public Spaces and Stimulating the Senses.

In a simplified way, this trend could be associated with the desire to cover and envelop public areas to create shelter and guide the flow of people. Dressing public spaces aims to go further than this, by creating memorable sensory experiences in the city. Simple elements or complex installations with unusual materials, plants, lighting, or even floating helium‑balloon clouds, can help transform everyday streets into engaging environments.

We came up with some challenges on how to address it:

A Street Is More Than a Street
Streets can become cultural experiences, as seen in “El Caminito” in Buenos Aires or “Camden Town” in London, where color and creative facades shape the identity of the place.

Cross‑Disciplinary Collaboration
Bringing together architecture, engineering, design, and art encourages creative interventions—temporary or permanent—that invite people to see and use the city in new ways.

New Urban Installations
Features like vertical gardens or star‑lit pavements offer unique experiences, attract visitors, and support local commerce and decentralization.

Continuous Public Engagement
Mobile structures that gather ongoing community feedback help generate ideas, strengthen public involvement, and reduce vandalism.
