At Reef Pulse, we are all professionally committed to preserving coral reefs, but it doesn’t stop there. Some personal actions also stands out to safeguard our planet:

📱 For more than five years, Yann Bayle, our CTO has been using a Fairphone FP3+. A modular, repairable phone that last and that's made from ethically sourced materials that reduces its carbon footprint compared to other phones.

💽 He uses it with /e/os Murena, an alternative degoogled operating system. And they’ve just announced two more years of support!

🚲 Most people at Reef Pulse come to work cycling! Yann Bayle has an electric bike provided by the local authority La Cinor and has cycled over 1000 km to and from work on it.

🪸Amongst other corporate social responsibility measures, a reduction in the carbon footprint of our AI algorithm that analyses bioacoustic signals has been implemented since day 1.

🌊 AIPANEMA: Using technology to support marine conservation in New Caledonia

Part of the Programme, the AIPANEMA project supports the monitoring of newly extended marine reserves in New Caledonia.

Over 33 months, the project will deploy passive acoustic monitoring combined with Artificial Intelligence to better understand marine ecosystems. This approach allows the simultaneous monitoring of reef dynamics, whales, sea turtles and human pressures such as noise pollution and illegal activities.

By generating new data on ecosystem changes and pressures, AIPANEMA will support the development of innovative and adaptive management strategies, contributing to the long-term protection of marine biodiversity in New Caledonia.

Plus d'un milliard de personnes dépendent aujourd'hui des récifs coralliens.

⏳Or, 90% des récifs pourraient disparaître d’ici 2050 en raison du changement climatique et de l'utilisation non raisonnée de l'espace marin dans les cadres professionnel et récréatif. Avec Reef Pulse, notre volonté est de contribuer à relever le défi de la conservation de ces écosystèmes.

✅ La force de Reef Pulse est fondée sur un triptyque d'expertises. Elle allie la couverture temporelle de l'acoustique, la puissance d'analyse de l'Intelligence Artificielle (IA) et la connaissance de l'écologie des récifs coralliens afin d'assurer leur suivi et leur restauration.

1️⃣ 🎤🪸 La première étape de notre démarche consiste à déployer des hydrophones au cœur des récifs coralliens afin d'enregistrer leur son ambiant.
Reef Pulse dispose aujourd'hui de suivis temporels en continu réalisés durant plusieurs années dans différentes localités des trois océans.

2️⃣ 🎵↔️🧠 Dans un second temps, nous analysons ces données acoustiques avec les algorithmes d'IA spécifiquement entraînés à détecter des sons sous-marins liés à l'état écologique des récifs coralliens.

3️⃣ 📖💻 Au terme de cette démarche, nous fournissons un rapport synthétique sur l'état de santé des sites suivis et nous émettons des recommandations quant aux mesures susceptibles d'améliorer l'état de santé des récifs dégradés. De plus, nous permettons l'accès à une plateforme dynamique de visualisation des données et analyses afin que nos clients disposent d'une liberté d'analyse complémentaire.
Notre outil d'aide à la décision (OAD) permet ainsi de contribuer à une meilleure gestion des récifs coralliens dans le cadre de l'Objectif de Développement Durable (ODD) 14 qui consiste à conserver et exploiter de manière durable les océans, les mers et les ressources marines.

🔊 En complément, nous proposons un volet restauration de l'écosystème depuis 2025. La diffusion du paysage sonore d’un récif corallien en bonne santé sur un récif dégradé permet d’y attirer de nouveau des larves de coraux et de poissons afin de contribuer à le restaurer.
