In a world facing growing environmental challenges, architects must act as stewards of the built environment. At NBC/ARHITECT, we embrace the responsibility of designing for a sustainable future—one that balances functionality, beauty, and harmony with nature.
Developed as our competition proposal for the Museum of Architecture and Design in Helsinki, KANTO (takes its name from the Finnish word for "tree stump") draws inspiration from the life cycle of a tree and its enduring relationship with the environment. The project explores how architecture can embody resilience, renewal, and respect for natural resources.
From carbonized wood façades that symbolize strength and longevity to warm wooden interiors that foster a connection with nature, every element of the design reflects the continuity of life and our commitment to responsible building practices.
Our proposal is a reflection of our belief that sustainable design should be deeply rooted in both place and purpose, creating meaningful spaces while caring for the planet we share.
