The Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah wasn’t designed to look diplomatic. It was designed to be diplomatic — resolving two architectural traditions, two regulatory systems, and two cultural identities into a single perforated skin.

Batik geometry meets the Hijazi Rawshan. Solar performance meets cultural memory. The ornament is the engineering.

Ceilography is an ongoing architectural research initiated in 2015.

The project explores whether a ceiling can be observed as a comparable architectural system rather than simply experienced as part of a space.

Every image in the archive is captured using exactly the same photographic protocol, producing an orthographic-like record that removes perspective and allows direct comparison between different buildings, places, and construction methods.

The archive currently contains more than fifty documented ceilings and continues to expand as an open, long-term study of architectural observation.

The Shuaibah Visitor Center was designed as a sequence of understanding.

Visitors move through compressed passages into open exhibition volumes, ascending through towers calibrated toward specific views of the desalination plant below — the sea at one point, the processing infrastructure at another, the distribution networks beyond.

The building turns observation into pedagogy.

Its environmental systems follow the same logic.
Sea breezes from the Red Sea shaped the orientation strategy before mechanical systems were introduced. Shading geometries derive from ripple formations in moving water. Greywater systems sustain the landscape through cycles of reuse embedded into the architecture itself.

The project proposes a different relationship between architecture and infrastructure: not concealment, but legibility.

Shuaibah Visitor Center

Water in Saudi Arabia is not simply infrastructure.
It is geography, policy, energy, and survival compressed into engineered form.

Commissioned by ACWA Power beside the expanding Shuaibah Desalination Plant on the Red Sea coast, the visitor center was conceived not as an annex to the facility, but as an architectural instrument capable of explaining the magnitude of water transformation before the visitor enters the plant itself.

The building’s geometry originates from the molecular structure of H₂O.
Its five towers correspond to the five stages of the water cycle — evaporation, condensation, precipitation, infiltration, and collection — translated into mass, height, orientation, and spatial sequence through parametric calculation rather than symbolic representation.

Architecture here does not imitate water.
It behaves according to its logic.

Ghiras Al-Madina does not operate as a conventional park or plaza.

It is designed as a spatial sequence of compression, release, shade, horizon, and pause.

As visitors move between the column formations, Jabal Uhud appears and disappears through layers of white vertical frames, while the movement of sunlight across the ground slowly transforms the atmosphere throughout the day.

The project draws from the earliest architectural condition in Islam: palm trunks fixed into the earth, defining sacred space through alignment and intention rather than monumentality.

Here, the landscape becomes scenography.
The columns become rows.
The shadows become time.

And the ground itself becomes part of the architectural narrative.

Ghiras Al-Madina

At Uhud, the command was simple: “Stand firm.”

Not merely a call to remain still, but to root the body into the earth with intention. Ghiras Al-Madina translates that condition into landscape.

Set across 78,000 square meters behind Beit Al-Madina and facing Jabal Uhud, the project does not treat the mountain as scenery, but as orientation itself. Every column, opening, and spatial sequence is calibrated toward its presence.

The modular white frames abstract the palm-trunk colonnades of the earliest mosque in Madinah into a contemporary architectural language — stripped of ornament, reduced to rhythm, shadow, direction, and ground.

No domes. No minarets. No symbolic imitation.

Only verticality, earth, palms, and light.

A landscape where architecture becomes an act of positioning rather than object-making.
