Hej på er!

Februari är nu igång. Hur blir det, tror ni? Tidig vår med snödroppar? Eller lite vinter till med härliga promenader i snön? Mest soliga kalla dagar? Eller molniga, disiga? Visst påverkas vi av vädret, eller hur?
Men det vi ofta inte tänker på, är hur inomhusklimatet också påverkar vårt välmående och vårt humör i allra högsta grad! Och självklart påverkar det hur vi trivs på kontoret, hur mycket vi orkar jobba…

Today we’d like to show you one of our Smart and Sustainable Office projects.

At Johanneberg Science Park, in Gothenburg, we created open space offices to provide the members with the interaction they needed. We analysed the needs and collected data to extract the through interviews, surveys, and observations.

The result was a certified working space that served the needs of the organisation but satisfied at the same time the individual needs of the users. A tailor-made solution that became a reality thanks to the excellent work of White Arkitekter and Interior Design Boid.

Hej!
How have you been? We’re glad to meet you here again! Now that you know what Furbish® does we thought you'd like to know more about some of the projects we’ve participated in.

We have not yet named specifically one environment we work in because we believe all working environments can be adapted for the better. However, we have seen that some are in more need of adaptation than others.

Did you know that in the European Union, buildings account for about 40% of total energy use and 36% of the carbon dioxide emissions. Hospitals account for around 5% of buildings' CO2 emissions in the EU and represent the largest energy consumer in the public sector?

At the yearly conference of the research programme “Design for an energy-efficient workday”, Furbish presented the preliminary findings of the project “Sustainable Hospitals – New Design for the University Hospital MHH in Hannover, Germany” led by Ulrike Rahe.

At this point you maybe wonder why we do what we do. Why we are so keen to help you to adapt and make your office fit for the times we’re living in.

Well, you know we believe in a future with sustainable workplaces, with healthier and happier people. In the world we live in we need to put people and the environment at the top of our priorities, at the centre, we must integrate end users into the design process.

Hej igen! We’re glad to see you back here. Yesterday you met Ulrike and Holger, the founders of Furbish®. Today we’d like to tell you our story, how everything started.

The origin of Furbish®, is to be found in the Smart and Sustainable Office (SSO) project, run by Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden and the IVE - Instituto Valenciano de la Edificación, in Valencia, Spain.

The project SSO is based on a body of research conducted over the past decade to determine the key ingredients for a successful smart and sustainable office. The project resulted in the development of a model that in its turn led to the launch of Furbish® as a start-up, commercialising its findings and results.

The SSO team worked with EIT Climate-KIC to build a comprehensive database – Europe’s first – that demonstrates patterns and interactions between office design, building systems, indoor comfort, user behaviour and employee productivity. From this, the teams were able to establish a consultancy methodology to create smarter offices.

Furbish® has already analysed 40 different offices across Europe using the research methods identified in the preliminary research along with “office DNA analyses”.

Hej! This is Ulrike Rahe and Holger Wallbaum. Nice to meet you here! 😀
We are the founders of Furbish®, a multidisciplinary start-up company, a team of workplace specialists, designers, architects, and engineers located in Gothenburg, Sweden, and in Bremen, Germany.

We are all facing challenging times, the pandemic has thrown the scales out of balance, especially when it comes to our workspaces, at home or at the office.

At Furbish® we have seen there is a pressing need for truly smart sustainable offices that put people and the environment in the centre and make them a priority. We have already helped 40 offices across Europe with our expertise, and we’d like to share with you our vision, our thoughts, our insights in here.
